I think it's the same as a stop sign. I got stopped once because the cop said I didn't come to a full stop even though I could see no one was coming. I thought I did stop, but apparently it wasn't long enough.
I watched my video. There is a sign that says "stop here on red" that I can see. I didn't stop completely and made my right turn because I could clearly see traffic turning left in front of me coming from my right. I still don't know how long you need to pause at the stop sign. Info on the internet (even Cherry Hill Township) doesn't give you an exact time, like 5 seconds or more or less.
I believe that intersection allow right turn on red. I've seen plenty of cars make right turn after a stop and no camera light flashes. I believe the camera is active only during the green to red light transition.
Check your video again, I bet you made a right turn at the intersection without a full stop during the light transition.
I think you just have to finish the turn before it turns red, but I guess the trick would be knowing how long the yellow is, as it's different at different intersections. I would imagine there's going to be quite a bit more road rage if everyone starts slamming to a stop at yellow lights, though.
So, if it is a yellow light, does one have to make a full stop before turning?
I think that light is 4s from yellow to red. The problem is that's a turn. If the person in front of you slow down too much on their turn, you are going to be turning on red.
I have a dashboard camera in my car. If I am ever caught in the situation like I described above, you bet I will be going to court.
The violation suspension and signal re-certification directives affect all cameras installed at intersections in the following 19 municipalities:
Newark, Linden, Wayne, Palisades Park, Union Township, Springfield (Union County), Roselle Park, Rahway, Englewood Cliffs, Pohatcong, Piscataway, Edison, East Windsor, Lawrence, Cherry Hill, Stratford, Monroe, Brick and Glassboro.
The order affects one location in each of the following two municipalities:
In Jersey City at JFK Boulevard (CR 501) and Communipaw Avenue and Woodbridge at Route 1 and Avenel Street.
I think it's the red light camera company that should be the one that reimburse everyone who got a ticket.
A few things about the "suspension". Thge cameras are still operational. They will still take pictures of cars running the light. They are going to review those traffic lights. If it is determined the yellow light is fine the tickets will be sent out. So this isn't a free pass.
It will be very interesting to see what happens if the lights are not in compliance. I could see a class action lawsuit for anyone who has already received a ticket and paid.
