Besides, Central Jersey doesn't neatly conform to County lines the way "North" and "South" do.

Why does the state need to be split at all? I kind of find it annoying to bounce back and forth between each section. I'm in the center of the state and I have no idea where the heck I'm suppose to post.

If you live north of 195, probably not this one.

The forum was split up because the regular NJ forum is overrun by posts about North Jersey and the few posts about South Jersey would get lost in there.

In general, I think South Jersey tends to be "exclusive" of Central Jersey while North Jersey is "inclusive" of it, if that makes any sense. This is because most of Central Jersey is in the NNJ/NYC commuter zone and cultural zone (yes, I know there are differences culturally, but at least in terms of sports, vocabulary, accents, tv/radio and other media, etc there are similarities). The only part of Central Jersey I'd say truly goes both ways is the area around Trenton.

Btw, if you click on the "Merged threads from all New Jersey sub-forums" link, it shows everything combined.

I'm in the 08520 area and, as you said, "goes both ways."

I think my biggest problem here is that, yes I live in Gloucester county. And my husband works in PA. But I dont live in the Philadelphia suburbs. I live in New Jersey, South Jersey. I dont go into Philly for any kind of excitement really and I spend my money and time in NJ. I am culturally NJ. I dont like being told I am in a suburb. If I wanted to live in the Philly suburbs, i would move west.

Sure it does...lol...

The start of the "Shore area" of NJ is started in Monmouth.....
When we would talk about going to the shore we would speak of heading perhaps to Monmouth. It is the "start of " your areas of southern shores.
( before you hit the towns of Asbury, Pt Pleasant, Seaside,)

Hudson and Bergen are more central "to New York".....They are not really North, nor South. The customs closer to the city in speech and style is different then the upper northern regions of NJ.

You have to agree that people of Morris, Sussex and Warren " ARE" northern Jersey. A whole different type of person grows up in this area.
More rural, more land, no city traits and actually it is "North" Jersey.

Simple as that.....

I agree with this you live in South Jersey...You are not a suburb of Philly.

I have never heard anyone call Hudson/Bergen anything but "North Jersey." The furthest up I've ever heard Central Jersey go is Somerset.

Asbury may be in Monmouth County, but it's not Southern.
