A revised version of the liquor license ordinance passed Cherry Hill's council. Revised Liquor License Ordinance Passes Cherry Hill Council - Cherry Hill, NJ Patch
" Instead of just the blanket repeal of restrictions included in the original ordinance introduced last month—a version that was subsequently killed off—this one contains a number of restrictions, requiring retailers to set aside a specific portion of the store solely for liquor sales and separate registers for liquor sales, similar to what is in place at the Wegmans grocery store in Mount Laurel.
It also specifies a minimum of 15,000 square feet for the entire store, including the area for liquor sales, effectively cutting off smaller retailers and convenience stores from holding a liquor license."
The ordinance will get its final reading and public hearing in two weeks, while the liquor license auction will be rescheduled for sometime at the end of March or beginning of April.

I wouldn't count out another chain. The Harris Teeter chain in Charlotte is supposedly considering a sale. They have stores up to Delaware. That would make it pretty easy for the buyer to come into Philly & South Jersey. The 2 chains mentioned in this possible sale are Kroger & Publix.

Harris Teeter is in S. Delaware which is associated with Salisbury and Delmarva, and still some 120 miles or so from the So.NJ/Philly region.

I believe that there's a Teeter in Dover. I could be wrong on that, & haven't looked recently, but I know that there was one there. Still, it would put another chain within striking distance & both chains are healthy.

I looked & there are 3 in southen Delaware on Delmarva. Apparently the Dover store is closed. Still, it would put either chain within striking distance.

Weis is closer in striking distance in Conshohoken and soon Hillsborough, NJ though it might just expand in Mercer County at most and not overexpand. The former Westmont Superfresh, Voorhees Echelon Superfresh/Genuardis and Marlton Genuardis would be three stores it or another chain could open. These should be still desirable locations, but not enough critical mass for an out of market chain. Ellisburg is now taken by Whole Foods. Another chain is McCaffrey's of Princeton. It has 4 locations just 50 mins to 1 hour north, and it could do well maybe in Westmont and Marlton with dining in the store like Whole Foods and Wegmans.Although going from 4 to 7 stores is a major expansion for a small chain.
In Marlton, I suspect Wal-Mart may across the street at Kmart's spot for a store designed with a full grocery store.

I would love to see another chain move into the area, and given the state of A&P and Acme I think it is bound to happen tbh.

There are enough empty stores in the whole area to support an out of market chain. The Acme in Glassboro, at the Collegetown shopping center recently closed. There is a history of chains entering the Philadelphia market from the south. Bottom Dollar is just the latest. Only time will tell.
