1. Modell's Sporting Goods has closed it's East Gate Square location, it appears just a week ago or so. The chain heavily promoted this new location will billboards, only for it unfortunately to not work for the chain, and close. This was a relatively short term stint. Famous Footwear also closed in that area prior, but FF pulled out I think before Modell's time. Modell's actually took the CompUSA space.
That side of East Gate has about 4 unoccupied spaces, with one of each side to Ross. I'm curious how the owner of East Gate Sq. will address the vacancies there. It's a little too tucked in unlike the B&N or Best Buy spaces. Maybe Wine Works or something liquor, and more discount oriented stores (like Pay/Half) that would complement Ross.
2. Restaurant Equippers has taken over the remaining side of long vacant Hoyts Cinema space in Pennsauken. I don't know if this store has opened yet.
3. Pathmark-as mentioned in the other thread: the Church Rd. Pathmark will be closing. It'd be nice if something was done to renovate the plaza before anything new goes in. Maybe Big Lots could move to the Garden State Pavilions next to Burlington Coat Factory, while renovations and a key tenant could take over the Pathmark+TJMaxx+Rickels space. I'd also like to see Plaza of Cherry Hill redeveloped but that's a pipe dream.
4. Over in Marlton, there is an excess of sites as well that are vacant as well, including the Tri Towne Plaza (Kmart/Superfresh), Genuardi's building, Borders and Tweeter sites, Olga's Diner site, and the G Boys lot. Some might just need new tenants and other might need a new leasing strategy and redevelopment with key anchors. I'd think possibly H&M would do well in the former Pottery Barn space, since there are stores like Gap, Charming Charlie and Victoria's Secret there.
Nice thread! According to a new flyer for the Walmart Shopping Center in Cherry Hill, KicksUSA has signed a lease for the end store closest to Walmart. I guess with this lease, it puts any potential Walmart expansion on hold since renderings showed this specific store being demolished to accommodate a bigger Walmart.
As mentioned, with the Cherry Hill Pathmark closing in September it leaves the center with yet another empty anchor. The old Rickel's building is still empty after all these years, and has supposedly been under Pathmark's control all this time. It will be interesting to see what happens with the center. Half the center (the left side after Rickel's) had it's facade renovated a few years ago, but the right side of the center still sports a very dated/dumpy looking facade. In the news about Pathmark closing the store, there were some interesting remarks by the town's spokesperson:
1. "Though the store’s departure would leave a big hole in the 190,000-square-foot shopping center it helps anchor, along with Big Lots, across from the Cherry Hill Mall, Palmer said there have already been other parties expressing interest in the site, though she didn’t specify anyone.
2. "The Cherry Hill location is in a plaza on Church Road across from Cherry Hill Mall. Township spokeswoman Bridget Palmer said that while the closure would lead to jobs lost, the township does not expect the building to stay vacant for long.
So here we have expectations that it will not stay vacant long, and that businesses have expressed interest in the site in the past as well. Also interesting comment about taking the opportunity to improve undermining sites. Hopefully this means the facade will be renovated before any other store moves in. Wonder if they will go after another supermarket, or something totally different. The only negative might be the current owners of the center. It appears to be owned by Flaum Management Company, Inc. Looking at their online portfolio of owned/managed centers, they don't appear to be the best centers in term of aesthetics and tenant quality. There is only so much the town can do to persuade businesses.
While that spot in East Gate Sq. didn't work for Modell's, I was thinking that Modell's would probably fare better in Marlton, perhaps at the former Borders site. Marlton doesnt have Dick's, The Sports Authority, Foot Locker or Finish Line. There is just Famous Footwear, DSW and the selection at Kohl's, but none are direct enough competitors. 73 in Marlton is a strong retail corridor with stores like Burlington, TJMaxx, REI and LL Bean.
Plus, the Borders plaza now has a gym, where the Club Metro customers might have an impulse to buy something related before or after a workout.
There might be an impact to the Berlin store, by Voorhees customers, but being in a good site in Marlton would probably be worth it.
I wonder if Pathmark would consider opening in the former Thriftway location. The main problem with it is size; there's only about half of a normal grocery store's capacity.

A&P, owner of Pathmark and Superfresh, will be out of the tri county area.
I'd guess that they'd be out of South Jersey altogether either this year or next year, but there are still 4 shore area stores.
It's good news that something is finally going in to this space. I'm not a huge fan of the Thriftway and was hoping for something better - but it beats a vacant space. The rumors, that bottom dollar is going to take over the space in Crystal Lake Plaza, are worrisome.
Per the latest loopnet PDF update, Sears Hometown & Outlet has signed a lease for the space to the left of Burlington Coat Factory at Garden State Pavilions in Cherry Hill. This is part of the former Home Depot space. I was wondering what was going to open there, there has been construction on the back side of it recently. http://looplink.metrocommercial.com/ll/17300778/2230-Route-70-West/
Anyone know any details about Sears Hometown & Outlet? It looks like it is going to be a pretty big store, occupying about 41k sqft. I am familiar with the standalone Sears Outlet in Voorhees, but haven't seen a Hometown store. Plus this seems to be a combination of the both per the name. I found their corporate website, it looks like they operate four different store formats and usually available through franchise, but none listed the way this new one is named. Evesham officials have declared 15 properties in need of redevelopment. In fact 3 of them (Olga’s, Tri-Towne and G-Boys) were declared "blighted", and the township may purse the option of condemnation.
The article mentions that the township is frustrated with Tri-Towne failing to attracting new business, but interesting enough the former owner of G-Boys is in talks with Tri-Towne owners to open a seasonal holiday shop there this fall.
