Any development that draws in business not already in the city is a good one. However, the impact for the city and its residents overall would probably be pretty minimal. The proposed site is pretty well removed from most of Camden and is near the main downtown districts, waterfront, etc. The nearest neighborhood which I think is Cooper Grant was torn down and completely rebuilt and I believe has very specific requirements for residency. Like I said, any development is positive, but this is about as isolated from the rest of Camden as you can get.
Perhaps you have forgotten or never heard about, Hugh Hefner wanted to build a playboy club in Camden. The city fathers decided they didn't want that type of image...........HAHAHAHA I forget exactly when that was, but I would guess in the 70s.
I grew up in Gloucester city in the late 50s I would take a bus from Gloucester up Broadway to Tattersdill music store for guitar lessons. After my lessons I would walk (with guitar in hand ) up Broadway to go shopping or to the movies, or just to Horn & Hardarts for lunch.
I was around 12 at the time..........holy cow !!! Could you imagine a 12 year old white boy carrying a guitar, walking through Camden today ??? Times sure have changed.......
AS far as Camden making a come-back............my father always said, "YOU CAN'T MAKE A SILK PURSE OUT OF A SOWS EAR"
