We live in Cherry Hill and LOVE it, but I agree, it's not really "walkable" in the traditional sense. We do walk a lot but it's not a town where - from your house - you can walk to a Main Street. Cherry Hill doesn't have a Main Street. It's more of a spread out suburb with lots of roads and traffic, large shopping centers and strip centers.

Putting that aside, a lot of the walkable towns, like Collingswood and Haddonfield, have really cute Main Streets that are fun to walk, but have a lot of businesses that we don't frequent that regularly, like upscale shops and restaurants. In other words, we visit those areas for a night out or to window shop, but not necessarily where we purchase essentials and do our day to day shopping. One thing I do like about towns like Collingswood and Haddonfield is the proximity to the PATCO high speed line which is a train that whisks you into Center City Philly in 15-20 minutes. HOWEVER, if one of you is working at Drexel, PATCO won't really take you there. You may want to consider the NJ Transit train which you can catch in Cherry Hill (behind the Shop Rite on Route 70). That takes you right into University City and you can get off at 30th Street station, which is right near Drexel.

Anyway, on a totally different note...just want to make sure you are aware that NJ has absolutely horrendous property taxes. Just be aware of this when you are planning out your housing budget. I would guess your annual taxes for a home in the $400K range in most towns would be over $10K or more, depending on the town. You need to factor this in when calculating your monthly payment.

You can go to Drexel via PATCO. You buy a transfer & transfer at 8th & Market.

Yes, that is correct. I forgot about that!

The NJ Transit train takes you directly from Cherry Hill to University City, near Drexel, and is more cost effective (if you buy a monthly pass) but that train only runs about every hour, whereas PATCO (and the Market Frankford El, which is the train you would connect to at 8th & Market), run continuously - about every 3-5 minutes at rush hour.
