it's so great to read about it!!
Yes we went every year when we went to the Jersey Shore.
I loved shrimp cocktail also!! The buffets were crazy with caviar and everything!
I remember the place as being sorta fanstastical with all those games and statues.

they really seems to like kids there

I was under 6 years old, but my memories include:

1. Getting a paper umbrella in my drink (sometimes a Shirley Temple if I was very good on the car ride).
2. Delicious shrimp cocktail and seafood dinners! (I was a weird kid who would eat grownup food)
3. The violin player who would go from table to table and take requests.
4. Watching my Dad and grandfather eat dessert that was "on fire!" It was some kind of flambe, but I was still very impressed that they could eat fire!
5. Eating clams on the half shell long before I ever had a biology class (see #2 above).
6. All kinds of cool things to look at, inside and outside the restaurant.

Does anyone else remember Zaberer's???

They apparently don't exist anymore. I am in my 30's. but I'm sure people a little older have lots of memories of this place.

Yes, I went there in the mid - late 80s with my boyfriend, for dinner. I used to love to get the stuffed shrimp. It was a crabmeat stuffing and the stuffing was on the OUTSIDE of the shrimp, and there was a LOT of it, so the shrimp looked like giant whales on the plate.

I remember the place having a lot of wood and a LOT of Tiffany lamps.

I was sad when it closed down.

I went there for their seafood. I thought it was on the black horse pike going into AC, unless there were 2 locations. And the Zaberized drinks, I remember, maybe it was the late 70's.

Zaberer's burnt down in 1992. The Cape May County Courthouse has some nice photos of it if you ever get down there.

OMG, that's so funny. The drive took forever and the signs leading up to it. Just ahead, yea right - maybe 10 miles ahead..

Great place though. Brings back alot of memories.

I used to eat at the Zaberer's outside of Atlantic City everytime we drove down there. Zaberer's pushed hard to get gambling legalized only to be shut out by the greedy casinos. I LOVED that place and sure miss it. hat a shame it was forced to close.

How weird coming across this thread. I just dreamed of this place the other night. Growing up in Linwood, that was the place to go for a special night out; i.e birthday, anniversary, etc. I remember when i was about 8 we went there for my mom's b'day and it was the first time I ever saw her get drunk. She had tall drinks with umbrella's in them and she was cracking up, as were my little sister and I.

It's really sad about the feud between the two brothers regarding the location in Wildwood and EHT. Apparently the place got a little too "unclean" and it's reputation began to diminish. I have fond memories of that place.

The main one was on the Black Horse Pike in EHT; the secondary one, owned by another brother (the two didn't speak to one another) was in Wildwood.

Great memories, great times. Boy, you made me nostalgic & homesick.
I remember eating so much I left almost sick to my stomach. And it seemed to be "the thing" to leave with a treat from the gift shop in a Zabarer's bag.

Now, who remembers Wally's on the Hill in Scotsplains off Rt.22?
