I am interested in relocating to South Jersey, we are looking at Haddenfield and Cherry Hill. But I am an elementary english as a second language teacher, so I am looking to work school districts that have a large population of recent immigrants. What areas around South Jersey fit that description? I would prefer not to work in Camden. I work in NYC now and would like to teach somewhere smaller. Please help!

If you are looking in Cherry Hill, would you consider working in Philadelphia? Clearly it's a large school system (and so might not be that different from NYC schools), but it does have the largest ESL population in the area.

Also, is there a particular language (Spanish, SE Asian languages, etc) that you specialize in? This might help narrow your choices.

I agree. Your best bet is probably Philadelphia. I know Northeastern part of Philly has a very large eastern european community - Russian, Polish, etc.

I can't get certified in Pennslyvania right now because ESL is not a base certificate there. I will be certified in NJ.

Use the NJ state report cards and look for the # of students in ESL.

Default Stay with NYC

You are totally looking in the wrong damn place............stay in North Jersey or NYC............I'm not saying this for any other reason.....(hell it has NOTHING to do with prejucice) ....but for your own well being! Just like we (South Jersey people) don't belong up there,,,,,,,,,,you don't belong down here either - ain't nothing wrong with being honest!

I moved from Bergen County and Essex County to Burlington County. North jersey / nyc area IS a bit different from south jersey / philly area, but you get used to it. And there are PLENTY of transplants down here. I meet other people all the time who used to live in Bergen/ Morris / Union and NY and moved down here for a different job or bigger home.

I live in the area you're looking to move, a lot of nice shopping, a few decent bars, A TON of places to eat, easy ride to Philly. You'll be fine here. People from North Jersey tend to lump all of South Jersey together, but there is a MAJOR difference from living in Cherry Hill and living down in say Cumberland County. Anyone who thinks you'd be terribly uncomfortable here is mistaken.
