Hello,

I've heard great things on places such as Cherry Hill and Collingswood. My co-worker moved down from Burlington County about a year ago and he is going to move back cause he misses it so much. I was wondering everyone's general opinion on South Jersey and where do you think is the best place for a young couple to raise a kid. Thank you all.

Well I currently work at a college down here in South Florida, but me and my wife are looking to relocate. I'd say we can afford anywhere from 320,000-350,00 on a house.

South Jersey is a great place to live and raise kids. Depends what you want. Collingswood, Haddon Township, Cherry Hill, Voorhees offer easy access to Philly with CH having the best public schools. Burlington towns like Mount Laurel, Medford, Marlton offer a lot as well, a bit farther to Philly but great access to central NJ, even NYC. Great schools in both counties. With your budget these towns would offer some housing inventory. I suggest you check it out and see what you like best.

In general, Burlington offers more open space, mcmansions with an agricultural feel. Camden is more congested and older but on-going revitalzation offers investment potential and more amenities.

If I had to move back to New Jersey, I would choose my former place of residence, Burlington County, and in particular, eastern Burlington County, Tabernacle, Shamong, etc as my first choice. For me, that area is clearly superior to any other county/area in the southern part of the state.

Snowfall has been minimal the past 5-10 years or so. I haven't used my snowblower in 3 years. Unlike FLA you will get full change of season in SJ including very hot and humid July/Aug and bone chilling cold around Jan/Feb. We have great Fall and Spring weather.

Many people commute to Philly, there is a rail line called Patco in Camden County that runs to center city. With a great highway system, Patco is accessible from most parts of SJ. But the local economy employs a lot of folks especially in the healthcare industry. The local economy is stronger than Philly and one of the bright spots in the mid-atlantic.

I would most likey look for employment at a college. I know Jersey has lots of them and they pay more than down here. How are the taxes. I know North Jersey, where my cousins lives, is brutal.

Depends on the town. Property taxes are high everwhere in NJ.
