The commute to Bronx from Cherry Hill would be brutal. Definitely longer than 1 hour. Depending on traffic, I'd estimate it at more like 1 1/2 -2 hours.
Cherry Hill is a very nice town to raise a family in...great schools, lots of recreational opportunities, shopping, restaurants, etc. but not a suitable town for commuting to NY.

Is that under $250 a month I assume? I would say its virtually impossible. NJTransit buses are the cheapest mass transit to the city and monthly tickets from Cherry Hill will be almost $300. Then once you get into the city you'll need a monthly metrocard which will cost about $86.
Driving you'd have to pay the $8 toll fee everyday. For an average 20 workdays in a month you'll be spending $160 just on tolls...and even if you're driving a Prius you'll be spending much more than $100 per month on gas.
Cherry Hill is definitely not an hour away from the city either and commute times will be as someone previous said 1.5 hrs (no traffic) - 2/2.5 hrs with traffic....and thats to just get into the city. Depending where you're looking to go to in the Bronx it could easily be another 15-20 min just getting around the city.
I recommend getting a place MUCH closer to the city. Good luck

Commute to Manhattan from Cherry Hill is doable - not advisable - but doable and people do it everyday. You could do it less than 2 hours off peak. Forget about the Bronx though unless you are a severe road warrior and able to work from home 2-3 times a week.

Oh come on...I doubt ANYBODY does this commute.
First the distance is VERY far...100 miles.
Second...Cherry Hill is pretty much a whole different state.
It's a Philly suburb...that's right it is not EVEN considered part of the NY metro region...you can't NY stations there.

Yeah... That would be the commute of the century. To Manhattan would be crazy, to The Bronx would be suicidal. The OP should be looking somewhere close to the GW Bridge - off the top of my head, River Edge, Westwood, New Milford, Fair Lawn come to mind.

I think the OP means a house for under $250k. Not likely near the city.

Oh, yeah. I'm not sure where you're going to find a house at that price within a reasonable commuting distance to NYC. Maybe a condo somewhere? I'm not too familiar with real estate in that part of NJ, but I do a know a house at that price is probably unrealistic.

You are witnessing here a 'drive till you qualify' east coast version of Southern California. It's just not an enjoyable lifestyle. Sometimes you have to come to grips with the fact that you can't earn a certain amount of $$ to live in proximity to the place of employment. This appears to be one such instance.

Cherry Hill is basically a suburb of Philly. It is doable but not practical since you'd find yourself driving several hours each day, twice a day, just to get home and do it again. You'd probably want to raze down the tollbooths after a bit of that too. Just basically a bit too far to do 5 days a week.
