I always see numbers about people leaving Nj but I never see numbers on how many move back. Has anyone actually moved back and why did you move back? Is Pennsylvania,Nc,Florida, and Texas all its made out to be? Are they all that much different then Nj other then climate?

Where did this number come from?

In any case it is inaccurate because it needs to add a .001% since I moved from NJ and am now moving back due to husband's job transfer.

Bob - FYI - I just checked the published number for 2009 and it is up to 38.6% now.

You must be using a different data source. I found my info at the Institute for the Study on Migratory Patterns of Wayward New Jerseyans- where did you find yours?

Ahh....so now we'll need to increase the percentage of "displaced yankees who have returned to where they came from- bless their hearts"......lol

also interested my general theory is that people move back during recessions to get support from family (still in NJ) so youll see lots of 20 somethings and young families... so it doesnt seem to be by choice, and they continue to send resumes outside of the state (but thats a general observance)

those that 'made it' in XX state have no need to come back and just come for Thanksgiving, etc.

I wonder what the percentage is of people who desperately want to move back to NJ because they hate the place to which they moved but are now "trapped" by the fact that they can't possibly afford to live in NJ, even if they sacrifice home size. I know of several in that boat who are desperately saving up to move back but it is going to take time. Biggest complaints they have are schools, crime, rising costs while pay stays low, and lack of job and business opportunities.

I'll bet it's at least 25-35% on top of the figure of those who do actually move back.
