I'll be graduating next June with a Chemistry degree and thinking about moving closer to NYC. I was wondering how the job market for a Chemistry degree in New Jersey closer to NYC. Like Jersey City, Union City around that area. Even Newark would work. As long as I'm about 30 minutes from NYC.
Can someone please give me some information about the job market there? Or any other place I missed that's close to NYC. I have heard there are many pharmaceuticals companies in New Jersey.
My sister was a chemistry major and makes a ton of money working with a flavor/scent company. She has worked for a few of them. Most of the jobs she has had or looked for have been in the central part of Northern NJ: Passaic, Essex, Morris, Middlesex counties. Some in Bergen, Union, even Monmouth counties. All of these are reasonably close to NYC. Nothing really in Hudson county or in NYC (well, not in Manhattan - I believe there are a couple in Queens and several in Long Island). I'm talking about companies that deal with pharma, food additives, preservatives, coloring, flavoring, scents, etc. I'm sure there are chemistry jobs in healthcare companies throughout the entire NYC metro area. But for pharma and food additives you're looking at central-northern NJ. Pfizer, Merck, J&J, etc. in pharma plus many others in food additives.

Good luck!
Hey thanks for the information! I'm not looking for a pharma job in particular. A friend of mine told me NJ is full of Pharama that's why I asked. Any kind of chemist or a job involving chemistry or biochemistry would do for me. A job I can make closer to $40K a year. Hopefully that's enough for me being single and all that for now.
I just don't want to go too far away from NYC, always dreamed of living there and hopefully it'll come true
