what do you mean by clear? there's invisalign and traditional "bracket" braces that are clear as opposed to metal. I had clear brackets and they were fine....the only issue are the rubber bands, if you use clear they get discolored over time. however, they get changed every time you visit the ortho (usually 1xs a month).

I was interested in them as well. Do they cost a lot more than the metal braces?

I assume by clear braces you mean invisalign. Invisalign is a great way to straighten your teeth and is no more expensive than conventional braces. Not every case is suited for invisalign however. The going rate should be between $4k-$6k.

I had clear brackets from 06-08. They were fine, but I agree the bands ALWAYS got discolored and they are slightly more painful when you have to get them off. I would have liked invisalign, but it was just too much $$$ for me.

slightly more painful than what? the metal brackets? i don't remember pain getting the rubber bands changed, but when I had to wear the bands between top and bottom? hoo boy. that hurt.

Yes, than the metal brackets, at least that is what I have heard. Yes, I had rubberbands too, those hurt like hell at the beginning. I only had the straight ones though, not the "triangles" which looked like they hurt much more.

I just finished a year with clear bracket braces (having had metal ones first time around). Found that they were 1/3 the price of invisaline. The only thing I noticed is that they stick out from the tooth a little further, so it was hard to get used to having all of that hardware to wrap your lips around. You still get a metal band, which is adjusted every month. I think the ortho said they were $200 more than the metal ones would have been. As an adult wearer, I wanted them to be as understated as possible, so went with the clear. Ironically, the retainer that I wear is like an invisaline, since I have to wear it 23/7.

yes! i also felt that I was all mouth - the only thing anyone ever noticed was my braces. i was also never *not* aware of them, which drove me crazy. needless to say, i was thrilled when they came off!
