Have you looked in Elizabeth , Rahwah or Linden? Those are other decent places to look into. With the Exception of Elizabethport.

Personally, Id take Hillside over Rahway or Linden. Its just about where in Hillside you are, the schools are bad but if your just renting how bad can it be.

Yes, I guess in crime, but Rahway and Linden are not nice in my opinion, parts of hillside are. If the apt is near Newark/Irvington dont go to Hillside if its near Union/Elizabeth id take it over rahway/linden.

Rahwah and linden are both nice towns , but get a bad rap because of the refineries.

Hillside is so-so. One of the few towns in Jersey that isn't extremely rich or extremely poor. It's better than Irvington or Newark but a lot of the people in Hillside still act gutter. Type of place where people don't mow their lawn or take care of their property. Also a lot of trash all over, people there litter as much as in Newark and Irvington. A friend of mine works at the Shoprite there and told me people regularly open food in the shop and put it back half eaten. It's not a ghetto town but people there behave like it is.

Roselle Park is probably the best town in that area that's affordable.
Hillside is ok, make sure you're looking into the good part of town.

Also Ro Park to Staten I is about 10 minutes. You just shizzle over to 1&9 and get on I-278, the short piece, only part NJ built, which goes right into the Goethals B.

I wouldn't consider Linden or Rahway good towns. I'd consider them decent towns with good parts and bad parts. I would, however, take either of them over Hillside ... which has one really good part (Westminster), one decent part (Conant), and the rest are pretty bad. Plus, their school system is terrible and the worst of the three.
