Why does he has to sell the house for price comparable to houses in the poorest school districts? Have we concluded that the salary of the SI has anything to do with the ranking of the school?
I think we may be better off to reduce the salary of the SI and the "overhead" in the district and hire more teachers. I like AnesthesiaMD's suggestion of hiring 1 SI per county.

But I think the town said that's part of my property taxes.
My option is to not pay or have a lien imposed on my properties.
I'll pay. Even though I don't use.

You are 100% right! I would also like my taxes back or whatever portion goes to cops and firefighters as well. Never used them so why should I pay for them. Not to mention I would like the money I pay for my health "insurance" back too because I have been very lucky and never used them either. Also whatever money goes into our defense systemsl. This country has fought too many wars that I am just not a fan of. When do I get that check. Maybe you can get your education taxes back and I will get my big fat check too. Cant wait!!

Why would large tax hikes be necessary to maintain the performance of the school district ?
What evidence do you have that there is a causal link between spending and performance ? The Abbott districts spend plenty, and perform poorly.

Sorry, but teachers have the same mortgages and electric bills that everyone else has.

But that's really a diversion. The topic is superintendents.

But capping superintendent salaries is going to have a trickle-down effect that is going to affect all school employees, and, as is almost always the case, the ones who make the least are eventually going to suffer the most.
|
How will that affect the other school employees ?
If it really does affect the other employees, we can, and probably should save costs by increasing his salary by 10%, and cutting the salaries of all the other employees. Sure they will be paid less, but then, they will benefit from the increase in compensation of the super, right ?
If on the other hand, you mean that this will automatically lead to a cut in salaries for the other employees, there is no basis for that claim, and it strikes me as yet another attempt to change the subject.

On the other hand, it really isn't any of our business what your Wall Street friend makes because he is working for himself and his salary has no bearing on our lives.
The wall streeter most definitely has a bearing on everyones lives. Anyone with a 401K, IRA, or stocks has seen the terrible effects of what wall street "mistakes" can do to the country. Look at the bailouts of AIG etc. and the resultant foreclosures and credit crunch. Try applying for a home loan today. The wall streeter incidentially works for a major bank and is not an independent entitity. Mistakes made by a bad superintendent will affect the townspeople, especially the children. Oftentimes the mistakes will linger for years. As we are currently seeing wall street mistakes affect the country and the entire earth. The real problem are the contractual protections afforded to people at this level. Try to terminate a Super after the first year of a poorly performed first year, when he/she is on a 5 year contract. The Super will walk away with a cool million dollars that was never earned. People in the real world of business are terminated daily for poor job performance. People today are angry because of their own personal anxieties, and are simply venting on the public employees. The public employee salaries are known information and are thus an easy target. When a person is unemployeed, or furloughed and still has their own monthly bills to pay there will be resentment, that is what is happening here. When times were good in the state and in the country there was never a mention of public salaries being too high. Despite all of this he public workers do perform important jobs. Yes, I too get angry when I see 6 public workers removing a tree and 5 are watching while only one works
This is off of the subject but, this is coming with all the cutbacks, police and fire calls that will go completely unanswered. It is already happening with citizen calls to 911. Many towns no longer answer these calls. The public workers that performed these jobs were terminated to save money. The calls are directed to a regional phone center sometimes 50 miles from the emergency. Eventually maybe someone will respond to the stroke, heart attack, or child choking emergency. Everything has a cause and an affect. Cutbacks save money but, can and do have very negative life threatening consequences. This is all just a little something else to think about, having already experienced the horror of a 911 call involving an elderly parent.

I agree 100% but most people dont care until it happens to them. Then they will complain about services. I went through it with my dad and lets just say it made a bad situation a little better. Nothing better then having fast responders and people that you know from around town.

What kind of logic is this? I am shocked. I just hope that you are not teaching in my district.

The same exact logic about not paying for schools via tax money because you dont want to use them. Great Logic right? Check the post out someone said something about being "forced" to pay for schools that they dont use. So I want some money back, sorry for using that "logic" as you call it.

With your "logic" we should cut CEO's salaries because that way the savings would be passed on to all of us right?
Ohh no I forgot CEOs are private and we dont pay their salaries somebody else does. Maybe the boogie man pays those salaries.
