I agree with capping the salary at $175,000 (with the exception being in cities). That is more then enough.

has there been any instance of town consolidations in NJ?

you have 2x2 mile municipalities in South Bergen and other counties with borough administrators/superintendents/fire police heads all making well over 6 figures before benefits/pensions and you have small graduating classes at schools in the 100-300 range only several miles from each other and people wonder why property taxes are so high??

"i do it for the kid$$$$."

I find it laughable that the superintendent of Glen Rock, with 2500 students, is threatening to quit because his 225k salary may be reduced. He justifies his pay by saying he has 30 years of exp. and 4 degrees and if the town is wiling to pay for his salary why argue with that?

First of, do the folks in town really know he's making that much? And why the heck does he feel he can make more than the governor of the state just for presiding over a school district with 2500 students?

I have relatives who work in the public sector and they all make at or near the 6 figure mark with fantastic benefits and pensions. While I'm happy for them, there are times when I find their complaints at such minor things as temporary pay freezes way overboard. During the recession, they should just be happy they have a job. Nevermind the fact that public sector pay has outpaced that of the private sector. :P
