The Mall at Short Hills is great if you have a ton of money to spend or really like 5th avenue style window shopping. Also, the Macy's there tends to have great sales and a lot of high-quality product.

Willowbrook Mall used to be a lot nicer, it's always too crowded and really nothing special these days.

I'm going to have to make a concerted effort to get back to Bridgewater, Menlo and Woodbridge after reading these threads.

What do you guys think of Rockaway Mall? I haven't been there but am moving to that area.

basically, it's fine, has what you need. not as upscale as MSH or B'water, but better than Willowbrook. It's trying. I read awhile ago that they have plans soon that will make it the 2nd largest mall in the state. This was before the economy crashed so who know what will happen. It has grown A LOT since I've been in this area though.

Malls are one of the best places for birdwatching.

Just a general comment to throw in here:

Malls that include the self important definite article "THE" in their name automatically lose points with me. Like, "THE Mall at Short Hills" or "THE Mall at Mill Creek". No. You're the "Short Hills Mall" located IN, not AT, Short Hills, and you're the "Mill Creek Mall" located in a complex named "Mill Creek" IN Secaucus, not AT Secaucus.

"THE Shoppes at Union Hill" loses double points because they also use the contrived spelling "shoppes" in addition to having the "THE". No. You are the "Union Hill Strip Mall" IN, not AT, Denville.

I fully agree!

And those "Shoppes" are going up all over the place. North Brunswick, Old Bridge, Hamilton, I think even one somewhere down by AC.

It's almost a scam. I'm telling you, you can go to a mall in Livingston or Short Hills or you can go to one in Elizabeth or Jersey City and they'll both have the exact same shops and the exact same type of people.

I've been to Bridgewater, Cherry Hill, Monmouth, Jersey Gardens, Newport, Livingston, Paramus, Short Hills, Willowbrook and Woodbridge and they're all the same.

I don't really get how it's a scam. And in my experience they really are not all the same. Malls in the affluent areas are going to have higher end stores, while malls in middle class areas are going to have more realistic stores. Go to Woodbridge Mall and then take a drive up the parkway to Garden State Plaza - HUGE difference.

I was joking about the whole scam part. But in all seriousness I've been to Woodbridge and Jersey Gardens. Same overpriced yuppy stores, same crowds.

I like Rockaway Mall, that said I dont get there often but I dont get to Short Hills much at all (Liv. and Willowbrook more often and they're OK for what I need). There's quite a few other stores in the vicinity of Rockaway Mall (Target, Walmart, Panera, Borders, Christmas Tree Stores, ACMoore, Michael's etc) - it can be congested around the holidays - I wish there was an Old Navy but who knows, that might come eventually. Overall it's convenient and I can't complain
