I have a client looking at a house that is very near a freight train line. It runs through Northvale, Closter, Haworth on down. Not an optimum setting of course, but is anyone familiar or lives in this area know how often the train comes through? How loud is it? I know I have been stuck at a railroad crossing at Old Hook Road once for 10 minutes when it went through, but that seems like a rare occurrence. Thanks!

There are 2 lines , both CSX. The very busy line is the West Shore line which has up 12 trains a day and up 1 mile long. The theres the Northern Branch which has 1-2 trains a week. By 2015 the section between North Bergen and Tenafly will be converted to Light Rail and by 2030 the Tenafly to Sparkill line will be converted to LRT.

Thanks Nexis! I have to look at the map again and see which one of these lines runs by the house.
