no such thing as express on the GSP South on a Friday afternoon, LOL.
With all the Construction on the GSP , 287 and 95 its not even worth coming down here on a Friday. The GSP has 8 different Construction sites going on , 287 has one giant one. At the worst it might take 9 hrs.
On a Friday evening in the summer, it won't make a difference if you are riding a camel. The roads will be bumper to bumper. I know it seems pretty strange, but we have actually made it to AC on a Friday night in the summer in under 2 hours by taking the Turnpike out to the exit for the AC Expressway rather than the Parkway. Expect to sit in traffic - bring a picnic lunch, knitting, books, computer games, and your jammies.
BTW, the express lanes are for only a few exits, then they merge again. That merge, can't remember what toll area offhand, can lead to the worst delay on the planet - next to trying to navigate the inner ring in DC area.

I don't know if the Turnpike was expanded, but when I used to live there the exit in question was 8A Jamesburg Cranbury. The absolute worst experience I've ever had the displeasure of driving through. This was when we moved to Burlington County and regularly visited family in Northern NJ. That exit had to be accounted for every single time we drove in terms of extra time, depending on time of day.
In that case, I think she's meaning exit 105, which I think is Rt 36 in Eatontown. Honestly, I don't think that merge is nearly as painful as the 8A merge on the Turnpike though. That's why I thought she was referring to the Turnpike.

8A is bascially is where the Truck and Car lanes merge on the Turnpike
On the person who came to the AC Expressway, NY to Philly to AC, you got lucky, 42, 55, and 295 to get to the AC Expressway (and at times the Expressway can be bumper to bumper and stop and go all the way to the GS parkway) can and usually are a disaster on Friday nights heading to da shore. A ride that should take 45 minutes has taken me 4 hours on Fridays and Saturdays. to OP if you can travel not Friday night or not Saturday morning you will save time

They back up (especially the expressway), but not really as much as the parkway does. Although I'm not sure if going out of the way to still hit some traffic would really be worth it.
Looking at google maps, it looks like you might be able to take the Turnpike to 206 South at exit 7 to the remainder of the AC expressway. Anyone ever done that?
