Rumson, NJ
Hey, I was wondering if Rumson would be an alright place to support myself and a possible family. I'm coming out from St. Louis, MO. For example, what are some good jobs there?
Thanks,
Hawley.

Rumson is very beachy and very exclusive. You'll be living with the Springsteen's and the BonJovi's. Not sure what you do for a living but you will need big bucks.

$$$$
Rumson is a fantastic place to raise a family. It is an absolutely gorgeous community close to the beach. If you have piles of money, look at homes on Navesink River Road--there are several for sale right now.
That said, there are many, many cities in NJ that are great where you don't have to pay two million for a nice home.
Oh, and people don't really work in Rumson itself. Mainly extremely successful Wall Street types, people who own their own businesses, heirs to fortunes, and, of course, the aforementioned rock stars.

To be fair...
Yes, Rumson is home to hugely expensive houses and rock stars.
But it's also home to some relatively normal people and homes.
I'm not saying the real estate is inexpensive (where is it, really?), but I have friends whose parents live there, and no one would call them wealthy by any stretch of the imagination. Their homes are the typical four-bedroom, 2.5-bath colonials. My point is that there are homes there below the millions.
Just sayin'.

If you are super rich...Then Rumson is the town for you.
Sales in Rumson have ranged between 500k to 4.5MIL with the predominant sales being around 1.5MIL.
The 500K sale was a 1,100 Sq Ft. Bungalow to give you an idea.

I love Rumson. It's gorgeous. So much of it is right by the water. Awesome restaurants are in the town. But it is extremely pricey, as everyone above has mentioned.

As others have said....Rumson is an exclusive beach town. A great place to raise a family.
However, people who own homes or live in Rumson..do not work in Rumson. (unless they work for themselves).
If you do not own your own business, you will need a six figure job working for some major corp. Your commute will be hell in the summer, unless you get lucky and find some corp who has an office in the county.

You're right..I forgot about the ferry. It's a good (albeit expensive) option for people who have to go to NYC everyday from the shore area.
I would bet it's over $600 a month to ride that ferry.
