Default Wood-ridge NJ (with questions about teterboro) - Anything wrong with the area??

Hi All,

So I have been house hunting and after some failed attempts in a few places and sudden discoveries (radioactive site in maywood nj near the house I wanted to buy), I want to get everyones feedback on wood-ridge, nj.

Anything wrong with the city (major sewage treatment plant, radioactive site, prison, etc.)?

I don;t trust my realtor to tell me everything. So far only thing I have noticed is the aiport noise. I am thinking of purchasing a home near wood-ridge rail station and the noise from teterboro is audible when outside the prospective home. A few questions about that:

Does teterboro air traffic stop at night? (for example, after 8pm and then resumes 6am?)

I have been hearing a lot about the negative health effects of living next to an airport..any proof of these rumors?

Thanks

I had a friend who lived in an apartment complex in Wood-Ridge. I spent a lot of time there, weekends, etc. Seemed like a nice little town. Close to a lot. I didn't pick up a lot of noise from the airport. Remember, Teterboro is not a high-volume airport and most of the planes in and out are smaller, non-commercial, puddle-jumpers, etc. Sure, there's some corporate, larger planes, etc., but it's not like they are running regularly scheduled flights.

I would ask the neighbors. Drive by, stop and talk to them. See what they say. They will know better than anyone. Good luck.

It's expensive, crowded, overpriced etc.

I wouldn't live there for those reasons.

Its an ok , small town. If you live west of route 17 it tends to be quieter , although theres not much east to live in. The First Train to Wood - Ridge arrives at 6:07am. You have access to Secaucus JCT via the Rail line that stops in WR. Secaucus JCT gives you options of commuting to all the states large cities and NYC. WR is also near all the states highways and major roads. If you live West of route 17 the plane noise is less , these are not small planes these are commercial jets.

Whoelsebutcharles > Your thinking of Woodbridge , not wood Ridge.

Okay school system for my family, less than an hour commute to NYC, options with commuting (bus or rail line), safe, affordable property taxes, and house values are not overly inflated.

Vindication,

I just moved to Wood Ridge earlier this year. I have lived in Rutherford and Lyndhurst before that. It has been great so far. I am a big fan of this area in general. The airport noise is there but honestly it doesn't bother me. I got used to it. You have air traffic for both teterboro - smaller planes and large commercial jets heading to Newark. This is north jersey with several major airports within a few miles (EWR, JFK, LGA) so air traffic is to be expected.

So to answer some of your questions. There is nothing wrong with the town that i know off. There are some quirks, like the fire horn anytime there is a fire (it is 2010, why they can't get beepers I don't know) or the airport traffic but overall I don't have one complaint. Commute into the city is great too by the way, I do it everyday.

imoapie,

Thanks for the information about the fire horn. Where do you live in wood-ridge - if you don't mind me asking? Do you hear airport noise at night, let's say after 9PM? Are there peak hours/days when there is a lot of traffic?

I heard something about Westmont developments and a new rail station. Do you know anything about that?
