We are looking to buy an apartment on 10t Street Hamilton Park JC
I Work in Manhattan New York, will have to walk it up to Pavonia/Newport Path. How long is the walk anyways, espicially through the mall? - do you have to go through the garage or the mall itself?. Is it safe or there plenty who cross through the mall? I am skeptical of the trasit from Hamilton, need directions from someone who travels everyday. Thanks.

Its a very safe area , although crossing Marin Boulevard can be dangerous at times with all those speeding drivers. Ive never had a problem in the Newport Mall area. I wouldn't take a bus for such a short distance , unless it was icy or snowy out. The Walk will probably take 12-25 mins depending how fast you walk , i walk fast and can knock that distance down in less then 15mins. Alot of ppl cross through the Mall and others , usually to grab a bite to eat or snack before using the Transit system.

The "Park Hamilton" building?

It's a nice and quiet area, the walk to the path station is not a problem. You basically cross the marin blvd at the light, go through the mall parking lot from one of its side doors, then the mall itself, exit downstairs, cross washington blvd into the newport path. Most of the trip is indoor which is great during bad weather/winter. Yes it be nice if there is a direct walkway but this isnt bad at all, around 10 min walk.

Other option which is slightly longer is to goto the grove path, easier walk mentally, just straight up marin blvd.

Have you looked at the waterfront units in newport/exchange place, hamilton park should be priced about 20% less for the similar doorman highrise buildings.

Yes we are contemplating on another apartment in Paulus Hook essex street though the house is a 100k more than hamilton park but closer to light rail, There's Cordero school around hamilton, close by though dont know how good it is. If you have to go through the mall itself is it open at 8:00 am in the morning cause that's when i have to leave. Thanks guys for the replies.

I used to live in that building and loved it. My wife walked to the PATH no problem, I picked her up if she was coming home after dark. That was 10 years ago I am sure things have changed and its even safer.

I used to live on 10th St. and did the walk every day through the mall to the Newport Path station. The mall is actually open 24 hours for people to pass through (the stores are obviously closed). I have done that walk at all hours of the day and night and it's very safe. There is usually plenty of security around. I'm a fast walker, and it took about 10 minutes to get to/from the Path station and 10th St.
