Hi All-
I will be driving north from East Brunswick to Summit 5 days a week, M-F. I'll need to be in Summit by 7:45 AM. Right now I take the obvious route, Route 1 to the Parkway, to 78 to Summit.
Alternatively, I could take Route 1 to the Turnpike to the Parkway. Also, taking 22 West from the Parkway looks like another option.

The commute is frought with potential slowdowns. What can you share about traffic conditions on these roads between 6:45-7:45? I think I will be early enough to miss the heaviest traffic, but maybe not.
What back ways will I need to know?
Any suggestions?

Thanks!

You could try RT 18 to Middlesex/Bound Brook and then up Mountain Ave. through Warren to I 78 and then RT 24.
Probably not much better then your existing route but it is different. East Brunswick to Summit is just not an easy commute.

Doing the standard click on the map business, you get three different options on this page, (sorry for using evil demon Google),,,
East Brunswick, NJ to Summit, NJ - Google Maps

Now if you select various other options, such as "Show Options" avoid highways or avoid tolls, or both, you will get back roads, etc.
I always like to have at least one other option, usually a few more.

The 3rd choice above has you hopping off the G around Clark, going thru Westfield, etc.

Avoid highways gets you in like this:, mostly backroads in sort of a straightest line routing.

East Brunswick, NJ to Summit, NJ - Google Maps

Also you can mouse around and change the route and try other map sites.
