Come to think of it I haven't had the UPS driver ring the bell... I have got stuff over the past few years and no one rang the bell. In fact there are times when I came home from work and my package was between the front doors, and I didn't even know it since I used the back door. When I am home and see the truck pull up and know that I have ordered something I go downstairs to see if he's walking up my steps. If hes on the walk way up I'll open the door as the driver is coming up.

With a few hundred deliveries, how much would be added to his day if he waited two or three minutes per delivery ? Days would be added to the normal delivery schedules. If no signature is required, why wait?

I don't think they should wait for anybody. Ring the bell and leave.

My UPS driver is OK, he doesn't ring and leaves packages for me in a dry/safe place. The one I have a problem with is the Post Office. My witchy Post Office lady is NASTY, sits in her car and beeps until I come outside, sometimes it is one beep then gone............did I mention that she sits at the bottom of my almost mile long driveway?

Almost took a job for UPS but got a better offer doing something completely different, anyway I was told at UPS your truck is packed for an 8 hour day... IF you don't hit traffic lights, traffic at all the customer is standing outside thier house on the curb waiting for the package. There are so many variables that theres no way to waste MORE time waiting for a customer to come to the door like someone said it's 2-3 minutes each stop wasted. It adds up very fast when you need to get everything delieved on time.

Ok, so here's a question. If a package is delivered and left outside and either disappears or is damaged, who is responsible? When you order stuff online, it doesn't seem possible to require a signature upon delivery. What if you ordered something irreplaceable?

Requiring a signature costs additional fees. Same for post office delivery. Companies and customers don't want to pay. Large customers can negotiate special rates. Most online retailers offer options upon checkout for different levels of delivery. to be honest, I usually always check the cheapest and never had an issue. A lot depends on the nature of your residence.

I always wonder about this too. My UPS always rings in Hoboken, but now that I have a house in the suburbs, they just leave it outside the door. What if my neighborhood is not safe and the package gets stolen or if it rains and the package content becomes damaged?

I guess if there are enough complaints UPS vendors may do something about it.
