I am planning to move to the NYC area from the Boston area. I am tired of cliquey "can't be bothered" type of people I am meeting here. I have moved a lot in my life due to being an army brat. The South was the worst. I am looking for FRIENDLY down to earth people where the sun shines (that's why I'm not looking at the mid-west).
I am a divorced , no children, 44-year white female who does have a dog. I am very outgoing, friendly and down to earth. (This sounds like a personal ad! lol)
I checked out and liked Tarrytown, NY, Summit NJ and Westwood, NJ. Tarrytown was my favorite but not sure if it may be too snobby.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you in advance! ;0)
To be honest , Westwood is the cheapest of the 3 but if your single its not for you. Tarrytown is slightly more expensive then Summit , i would say it offers the same. Summit is like Tarrytown , but less expensive in my opinion still offers the same amount of stuff. All 3 Towns are located on Railways that feed into NYC. Summit does offer more access to state parks and its also near some interesting historic sites. Tarrytown is kinda Fast beat , always something going on there , Summit is less of that. Westwood theres none of that , mostly on the weekends.....its dead quiet here. Most of the town packs on the train and heads into the city. All 3 have cute downtowns , with old historic buildings , all 3 have low crime. All 3 are within a 45-55min train ride form NYC. I think Summit is in a 3% sales tax zone , or near one. Westwood and Tarrytown are 7 & 8%.
Summit is pretty pretentious, but probably better for a single person. Westwood is more "regular" but in the very busy Bergen county (which has a more "Jersey" personality IMO). I dont know Tarrytown well other than hearing it's nice, and I would have guessed less pretentious. Summit is a very good central location and commute.
