I've been here 17 years and just waiting for my daughter to graduate in 2009and we're outta here.
This states sucks.

I have to respond to your eloquent statement,"this state sucks." Take a look at how NJ ranks in terms of crime, education, and intelligence.

To summarize you will find that BRICK, NJ was rated the SAFEST city in the U.S. for 2006 and that NJ overall is 33rd with #50 being the safest. NJ is ranked 5th as the most LIVABLE state in terms of job growth, low unemployment, low crime, weather, highly educated, taxes, education, etc. NJ is the 4th SMARTEST state and is 4th in ANNUAL SPENDING for education.
So, I hope that your children received a top notch education, felt safe, and enjoyed a good life. Negativity breeds negativity. That's OK, the rest of us will be the ones actively voting and finding a solution.
As for West Virginia-good luck on finding your utopia. You might want to check how your future state fares. I've lived in 5 different states and there's no place like NJ!
PS Thanks to 66nexus for backing me up!

I've said that sort of thing yet it falls totally on deaf ears. There's no doubt it's an expensive state to live in but you're links back up why it's still a great state. I've lived in New Jersey, I currently live in North Carolina but we're moving back to New Jersey. North Carolina's a great state, it still doesn't hold a candle to New Jersey.

Exactly. At least I don't have to look back years from now wondering if we should've given the south a shot. We did it, it wasn't what we thought, we're back up to NJ for good. We're going back come mid-November and it can't come soon enough.

I totally agree! This is my 5th state and my least favorite. I'm glad that we saw what it was like, because it made me realize what's really important-family, our church, our kids growing up with their cousins, feeling comfortable, great education, safe area, and knowing your way around. We're going home for Easter and hope to move back this summer, job permitting for my husband. Hopefully before it's 100 degrees and 90% humidity here! It was already 84 today!!!!Good luck to you!

I just want to comment that I certainly do miss NJ. It has its slums, but overall it's a great state. New England has grown on me, and I don't know how long I'll be up here, but NJ has more character than flaws. As for education, Rutgers is definitely a great school (especially considering the cost of attendance). Plenty of things to do, although it's a shame it's characterized as a 6th NY borough.

I'm glad a lot of you guys see the best of Jersey. I haven't had the pleasure of living in other states for extended periods but I've seen a lot of what they have to offer. I'm not knocking other states (as so many other states do to Jersey), I just know a lot of them don't offer what Jersey offers...
who could give up Italian hot dogs? not even for immortality
jerseygirl and brian...good job

I remember reading somewhere that it's easier moving within countries in Europe than it is moving from north to south. It's not hard to learn the currency, anyone can learn a language with enough effort. The culture is mostly the same. North to south (and vice versa) tends to be a different beast to deal with. A lot of people make the move and stay, a lot reverse their tracks and head back up. I've had my fill of the south, to me it's overhyped and well overrated, I'm done with it.
Good luck to you too!!!!

Yeah Jersey's too close to New York and Philly that we don't really have 'our' big city. I wonder if that'll change in our lifetime. I like New York but the influence it has is immense, which in my opinion is both good and bad. Once the MetroCentre is completed in Harrison that will make 3 major league teams that play in Jersey but keep a New York name. Maybe in about 30-40 years the NY/NJ lines will be so blended that they would join and become a 'super-state' of sorts. That may be nice for some, but I for one would push for Jersey 'independence' first. I don't mean forgetting NY(wouldn't make sense) but I do mean more NJ recognition so the tri-state(and country) can realize that New York isn't New York by itself.
