I always wanted the NJ teams to move (anywhere with more trans infrastructure. I hated driving to CAA). For my own sake than theirs because I just couldn't get to as many games as I would have liked. And just because the Devils are sticking around I'm that more committed to them.

Toxic People
The people on this thread who mentioned Willingboro are either: a)senile b)stupid or c) racist. Same with Dover. Instead of talking such virulent, inaccurate nonsense, why not actually check your facts? Try researching crime and income statistics. Neither Willingboro nor Dover has even a remote resemblence to Newark and Camden, unless you are one of those twisted, useless people who cannot see past the color of people's skins. It's obvious that this is about race. I haven't read all of the posts, but there doesn't appear to be any mention of predominantly white areas like Guttenberg and Glassboro, which both have lower income and higher crime stats than either Willingboro or Dover. Also, I thought that this site was supposed to provide info for people seeking to relocate. Instead it's become a virtual ghetto for intellectually and spiritually lazy people. NJ, like many other states, is complicated: there are good people and bad people; good areas and bad areas. And don't burst any brain cells trying to grasp this concept: Even.in.the.bad.areas.there.are.(dramatic pause)...good people. My sixteen year old can grasp this concept, why can't the grown ups on this thread? Presuming that the most toxic among you are grown ups. I live in an affluent area in the south. There are many trailer communities crawling with meth users and pedophiles, but I would never waste precious energy picking these towns out by name to insult them and their inhabitants. What's wrong with you people?

I Love NJ
I would like to add that I love NJ. I can understand the frustration that many people feel about home prices and crime -- but these are factors in many states. Unlike many states though, NJ offers a concentration of well-educated, sophisticated people (though you couldn't tell by some of the posts on this thread); proximity to two major metropolitan areas; superior school systems; and a mixture of so many different cultures (though I agree with those who've said there are some unfortunate segregation patterns). I lived in both JC and Newark while attending school, and though I would not move back to either area, I tried to find ways to enjoy my time in both places. I loved frequenting the wonderful Indian eateries in JC and the convenience of transportation into NYC. While in Newark, I attended as many events at NJPAC as possible. People who cannot afford to live in the best areas of any state tend to complain the loudest. I am moving back to NJ with great enthusiasm, and I would encourage others to think about the mind states, lifestyles, and attitudes of the people offering advice before you decide whether to heed it. Take everything with a grain of salt.

I moved here from Texas, where I was born and raised. The first place I moved here was Cliffside Park, up on the palisades close to lincoln tunnel. it's a nice little town with older immigrants (italians) mixed with the new (salvadorenos, south americans). There is a deli on the corner I would always get a prosciutto and fresh mozzarella sandwich from. The produce stand sold whole bunches of basil for a buck (i love pesto) and the people who worked there speak to each other in italian. japanese and greek food within walking distance. all without getting in my car...try that in houston tx, the land of the big box and the sprawling faceless suburbia.
not to mention easy access to NYC, either by the GW bridge or bus through the lincoln tunnel, PATH at hoboken.
as a fresh immigrant to NJ, I would suggest that you get an apt on river road in west NY, edgewater, weehawken, etc. River Bend or Landings at port imperial are good choices. That's the easiest way to transition to this area...the developments there are more along the lines of complexes in the rest of the country (i.e. they are new). Expensive, but the bus to manhattan is 2 bucks and takes 10-15 minutes. After that, explore and see what you like. I ride motorcycles and I cant get enough of sussex county, warren county, hunterdon. sussex is just gorgeous and unspoiled, when I ride there it feels like rural england in many ways. I like to ski, and this winter I went every weekend to vt, NY, PA, NJ. back in TX I would have to plan a special trip to Utah or CO...here I just jump in my car and drive.
I do a job that requires me to travel locally & nationally, and although I hate the way some of the people drive here, I like it better living in hudson county than if I had chosen to live in the 5 boroughs of NYC...and forget about long island and the nightmare that is the L.I.E. or any of the appropriately named "parkways".
ppl will drive you nuts on driving, and there are a lot of rude folk about. but to be honest, I see a lot less wrecks here than in houston or dallas. I think that in TX the roads are so humongous that people get lulled to sleep, here you always have to stay alert or you WILL have an accident. The rudeness I believe comes from the fact that people are always under pressure here to get ahead in order to make their mortgage, promotion, etc.. combined with the population density. most ppl are amiable at their core, there's just a callous of rudeness on the surface born from past experience that you have to cut through first.
so it's do-able. getting back to the thread, my pick for worst in NJ is irvington crimewise, and as far as looks...that would have to be downtown paterson, maybe greenville section of jersey city. For all you paterson folks, no disrespect b/c I enjoy parts of paterson like the middle eastern food and the best grocery store around CORRADO'S. I dont mind newark at all, in fact I'm glad the NJ Devils are moving out of the swamp to Newark, I will definitely be going to more games. and JC has good places too. Basic idea is: take the job for the salary, and find out for yourself. If you dont like it, there are 49 other states to move to. Ain't the USA just grand?

Thank you. Thats all I have to say.

I Hate New Jersey
I was born in nasty Willingboro, New Jersey, and I am so glad that my family moved from the sewage dump of America and moved down South. I don't miss anything about smog filled and polluted New Jersey. The people are rude and so are the drivers.

Willingboro has gone to thugs and the ghetto. Yeah, I would really want to live in that dump now.

I'm with you Crazy Daisy. I have lived in Northern NJ for my entire life and I can't wait to get out. The only thing good about the area is that we are near to NYC which we love. Other wise, you can keep the rude people, high property taxes and bad , nasty drivers.
This February was so fridgid , I could hardly inhale outside.
Our friends moved to Beaufort ,SC two years ago and love it.
We've checked it out and have visited a few times plus the Bluffton area and will be heading down that way as soon as my husband can retire in a few years.
Need to get out of this rat race!!!!

Ah...this is great. You hate Jersey and apparently moved out to the South but yet still managed to find yourself on a NEW JERSEY forum. I don't even think you're from here. And that doesn't mean people aren't allowed to hate Jersey, but I read into things, and when people express hate on another level it makes me wonder... You remind me of divingallout. Ya both hate Jersey so much but you absolutely MUST join this forum to express it. Hmmm...I wonder

You are near NYC which you love, but you hate Jersey. Why do I get the feeling you're really from the city? No? okay then I simply must say: If you LOVE NY and don't like ANYTHING about Jersey then I think you're full of it. There's more NY influence in North Jersey than I care to mention. Even the most hardcore haters find something they like.
P.S. Yeah this February was kind of cold. So when you go to SC you can trade cold weather for hurricanes. Do enjoy

that's a pretty broad brush you're stroking with. i live in Northern NJ, people are friendly, few bad drivers and it's very peaceful, quiet and dare I say it, bucolic? I don't feel I'm in a rat race at all. you do realize there's more to this state than the 15 mile radius around NYC, don't you?
The weather will be warmer in SC, but good luck "inhaling" in that sweltering July humidity, and living with bugs the size of prehistoric animals...
