This is not the NJ I grew up in. Yes, I guess I did paint a rather broad picture but that's just because I am thoroughly disgusted with it now. Funny how I can love the fast pace of NY as well as the more "sedate" South.
Now I'm getting reflective and starting to remember the way it used to be....but I still want to leave.
OK--now you guys have me feeling a bit guilty. I do still like parts of the Jersey shore. I like Madison...but still there's not enough to make us want to stay. The reason we love NYC so much is for the great museums, the restaurant's, Lincoln Center etc....I do happen to think it's pretty glamourous! Not us, but the city in general is so diverse and cutural, c'mon!
Guess it's time for a change for us though.
As far as the sweltering heat of the South plus a "few strong winds"
I guess it's all a trade off.

Well, no one can knock you for wanting to leave. Jersey isn't really everyone's thing. I also do like New York, but it's hard for me to express because I'm used to our state being on the 'receiving' end. SC just may be for you and yours.

Hi 66Nexus,
I know what you mean about us being on the "receiving" end.
I used to hate it--still do , when David Letterman cracked jokes about NJ.
It's like the thing where you can insult your sibling but nobody else can.
I wish I didn't feel this way sometimes.

Why do you think everyone is leaving New Jersey and going elsewhere? New Jersey is a dump.

Correction: Jerseyans are moving out, everyone else is moving in. What?...do you think Jersey has 8 million people because of the 'Sopranos'? But hey, you're the one on the New Jersey forum. You know what I think...I think you love NJ and you hate that you love it. And because you hate that you love it, you'd go on a thread specifically for Jersey just to convince yourself you hate the place. Willingboro probably does suck, I wouldn't know(never been there). But Willingboro is in New Jersey, New Jersey isn't in Willingboro. Stop foolin' yourself. I hope you don't hate that ONE or TWO towns in SC and hate that state altogether as well.

The joke thing really does not bother me if the jokes are funny. Much of the time that is questionable. Usually people who come from an almost identical setting (like Long Island) make these jokes and you could easily come up with something much funnier at their expense. There are tons of things to make fun of in the Carolinas. I could go on for hours about that but I wouldn't waste my time on it and those people don't appreciate that type of humor.

If I felt like I lived in that crap state everyone likes to think Jersey is, I probably would just accept...but I cannot do that. Maybe Jersey will hit me wrong one day, but until then...

Don't ask me why.
You can believe that I'm not from NJ if you want. I don't really care to debate that point.

I See now we can agree on something. I also hate those that try to belittle my state. If your not from here then don't even open your mouth. How can you talk badly about a place you have never been I haven't been to California but hear negative remarks about it but I will not throw dirt on a city or state I have never visited. You can do all the research in the world about any state but that doesn't mean anything unless you've lived there

WOW... if you really have a strong dislike for something then why are you still here. Thats like finding a dead bug in your soup and still eating. If you really hate it that much then leave. People love to bash Jersey but I think I know what it is that makes us an easy target the fact that nay sayers like your self continue to insult us and it bothers you that we remain uneffected but seriously I would suggest getting a first class ticket out of this "DUMP" and never come back Jersey will not miss you

The weather will be warmer in SC, but good luck "inhaling" in that sweltering July humidity, and living with bugs the size of prehistoric animals...

LOL yea I like that if you don't like Jersey then leave they're more people coming in on your way out
