for the most part... let's REALLY consider the BAD parts of NJ... im from JERSEY CITY, GREENVILLE SECTION... and to me, it's HOME.
now... the worst cities in NJ in no particular order:
jersey city
newark
irvington
east orange
paterson
camden
trenton
any other town/city in NJ is NOT BAD! stop trying to make the whole of NJ look like ****. look @ englewood cliffs, cherry hill, hoboken, downtown jersey city, palisades, little ferry, atlantic city, etc. have some good recognized areas.
they might be "bad" but they also have good parts to them. unfortunately, most people dont get to see both sides to a city! now when we talk about drugs and murder and car theft (crime in general) jersey city, newark and paterson are the biggest cities in NJ.

In a way, this thread is quite interesting because it lets us vent about towns in our State. It also shows how different folks can hold different views about things which should help to keep us all humble.
Personally, I was born in one of the cities listed above, live in another, have friends and colleagues in 2 others and surely agree that all these towns have bad reps, bad parts, but they also have pockets of sanity, safety and even beauty (e.g. Paterson Falls, Newark's Forest Hills section, downtown NJPAC area, JC waterfront area).
Another thing I like about we Jersey folks is we're willing to be critical of our towns in our State; now, if we only could pressure our local politicians to work harder to improve the place!

If you check out the article about Newark's revival in last Sunday's NYTimes you'll see that many people, especially those leaving NYC, Hoboken or Jersey City because of high prices, are excited about moving into Newark and becoming part of a movement to improve the city.
Newark may still be "deeply hated" but it seems it's getting some love, too, from others these days.

Nothing too much wrong with West Orange.
Some trivia, the old Monkees song, "Pleasant Valley Sunday" was written by Carol King who used to live in an apartment on . . . . . . . Pleasant Valley Way.
It's an okay town, most of it...
but I think I heard that Ms. King moved awhile ago.

Thank God I'm not a Jersey resident but based on what I've seen, in no particular order:
Newark
Jersey City
Union City
Asbury Park (to see this, watch the "Feels LIke Today" video by Rascal Flatts)
Camden
Elizabeth
Patterson
Trenton
Atlantic City actually isn't so bad. Its not as ghetto as Baltimore or PHiladelphia even. And the setting is beautiful on the ocean and a bay.
All the cities across from NYC are dead ugly and crumbling, especially Jersey City and Union City. Camden is also a VERY VERY VERY bad place. It is officially the most dangerous city in the entire country.

Okay whoa there buddy...you say AC isn't so bad but Jersey City is...'crumbling'?? It was 'crumbling' about 15-20 years ago, JC is way on the up and up now. Have you seen a before and after picture of the waterfront alone? What used to be warehouses and trainyards now stands exchange place and the state's tallest tower. The brownstones are even fetching prices of one-million (USD) plus...

Irvington. It's a very scary town. That's where the police found my car (what was left of it) after it was stolen from Newark.

Believe me when I tell you that there are much worse things about Irvington than car-theft...
