Born And Raised In Jersey City. Left 18 Years Ago. Was Terrible Then. Growing Up Was Great Until Reality Hit Me And I Realized There Was No Way On Earth I Want To Rais My Family There. Maybe In The 50's 60's And Seventies It Was Ok But As The Eighties Approached The People Changed And The Decent People Ran Like Heck. I Know There Are Still Good People There For Sure But The Class Of People Who Ruined Their Old Neighborhoods Decided To Move On And Ruin Another. Alot Of Druggies And Welfare Cheats There Now!

There are different levels / tiers for people on the Megans Law. I don't exactly believe everyone on the list has a crime against a child. When it 1st was introduced, they used it as a "deal" with some, they actually should be almost off of the list after serving their 15 years. I know someone that was going to go to jail for drugs but was given this "deal". Little did they know what it was. Had they, they would have gladly done jail time instead of having this attached to them for 15 years.

Sometimes cities do come back. I saw 14th street in Manhatten when it was a dump, but now its an area with Trendy Restaurants and part of SOHO. It's probably not a good place for a family, but it seems to be working for singles. Diane |

They can be on there for any number of reasons. Some for having porn in the house with a child (most people should be on the list for this), some of it is so stupid but it was what was bargained for. You never know with some of the women these days divorcing men. They make accussations, the men pay for the rest of their lives (or 15 years) Megans Law has flaws... |

'I also find it odd that you would make a statement like "I wouldn't have my city any other way"'
That seemed odd to me as well. I am new to this site and to NJ. My interest is Mayor Booker and changing bad to better. Either of these parties - and others - might help. I am looking for depressed property - perhaps industrial now, but NOT toxic. -- property which is unwanted and a low price. I would like to build a multi-use building or renovate an exisiting one. The AD project would employ and train and house any WILLING participants (this is hard work) - and we hope - upgrade the area. I have done this in California. If you have comments or know of LOW cost property 80x100 feet - perhaps even more than an acre, please post your contact in this thread. If you have comments or know of INDIVIDUALS, perhaps a family at risk of losing their home or job, please post your contact in this thread. Thank you, ADreamer |

I have lived in other states and they all have problems. Maybe different problems than NJ, but problems never the less. NJ has so much to offer. The shore, the mountains, beautiful country side and good breakfast diners, just to mention a few. Look at all the school shootings. They weren't in NJ. Pay attention to the world news and you will see there are problems everywhere. The cost of living here is expensive but there are also jobs here, which some states don't have. Anyone who wants to work can find work. I think NJ gets a bad rap. In all the states I have lived (4) and cities (7), Central Jersey is my pick. |

i was born and raised in the 'ironbound' section also known as 'down neck' Newark. I was never scared of living there or visiting - I was more afraid when i moved to Readington (farm country) and driving on dark streets with no people around. Although I haven't lived in Newark in 22 years it's still my 'home town' and I would not trade my experiences for anything - NYC was like my playground - we would take the path train to the city every weekend. I was exposed to cultural differences and the arts at a very early age and have a deep appreciation for both as a result. Although my family has decided to leave the state of NJ for many of the same reasons you all feel the pain of (taxes, state corruption etc) I will miss being so close to my roots and NYC. You can take the girl out of the city but you can't take the city out of the girl.
