Parents of NJ student who killed himself may sue - Yahoo! News (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20101222/ap_on_re_us/us_rutgers_suicide - broken link)
I think that would be pretty pathetic if they do end up suing Rutgers
It said they filed to preserve their right to sue but can't actually sue until he's been dead six months.
I hope they rethink this. Not only would a successful lawsuit cost the university money it doesn't have, but if it sets a precedent wherein the school is then somehow responsible for every dumbass thing students do, that's going to cost future students, as well as the state, a lot of money. I realize the parents probably feel bitter and depressed at this time of year, the first set of holidays after their kid's death and going into the New Year without him, but turning grief into greed doesn't help anyone.
hey, the kid is already dead so why not cash in on your sons death? im sure there are lawyers pushing them to do it. they will sue if a lawyer feels he has a shot at money. this opportunity to sue for everyone courtesy of our democrat legislators who are bought and paid for by the trial attorneys groups.

I've no doubt that lawyers were vying for this case before the dirt settled on the grave. And Ridgewood is full of them.
Does it really come as a surprise to anyone that there's a suit in the works here? I'd be shocked if I'd read that they DIDN'T sue......
I found it personally disgusting when I read that they may sue the state university. Rutgers has no liability in this case. Either way I hope they never get a penny off this. Karma would come back to equalize things if they did.

The Rider Univ. case from a couple years ago already proved that. Lawyers...
As a parent, I find it hard to believe that money is their motivation. They lost a child, and I'm sure they want or need someone to blame just to help make some sort of sense of it all. They are misguided, but can anyone blame them after such a loss? Hopefully, they will come to their senses before this goes too far.
Where, exactly, is the culpability on the part of Rutgers? What next - sue NYC for not patrolling the GWB where he jumped?
Sadly pathetic...
