My husband and I (and our 9 month old!) are ready to head out of the city and out to NJ. We are working w/ a budget of $900K (for a home that needs cosmetic work) to $1.2M(move-in-ready). (We are expecting taxes to run anywhere from $15K to $25K depending on the home.) Here is what we are looking for:

- GREAT public schools
- more than .25 of an acre lot size
- less than 60 minute direct train to nyc (preferably 30-45 mins)
- cute nearby town/village
- min of 4 bed/2.5 bath
- Jewish community center and/or temple nearby

Any suggestions for where we should focus our search?? Any and all info/suggestions are welcome!

The usual suspects - Westfield, Ridgewood, Summit, Chatham, Montclair

Are any of those direct trains to NYC? Off hand, I know Westfield is a transfer.

Livingston has no train....bus only

Westfield is an amazing town, lived there 10yrs and next to it in Cranford for 20yrs. The transfer is simple and I think they offer express direct into NYC at rush hour maybe???

I wouldnt put any other town in front of it unless you dont enjoy an outdoor mall town setting (GAP, Victoria Secrets, Banana Rep., etc etc) and countless dining options. Your dollar may go a little farther in other towns but not by much. If you need a realtor referral message me

Summit is a great town with really good train links (direct into Penn Station). If you are looking for some land, Ridgewood might be better.

Does Ridgewood have a direct train? I was under the impression that it was a transfer.
