Moving Back To New Jersey
We are planning to move back to New Jersey sometime this fall. Does anyone out there know where we could find a nice home with an attached or basement apartment. We will need this to help defray some of the cost of the home. We are looking for a place in Central New Jersey.

What's your pocketbook allow? There a lot of new development communities in Old Bridge, Matawan, etc., but because they're new a lot of the basements are unfinished (though I'm still sure you could find one w/ a finished basement) and you may have to drop a few $$

I don't have a price range right now. The watchword here though is "cheap". We can always get a nicer place as our situation improves. We are just looking because I have not yet secured a job up there. We NEED to get out of Florida. I cannot find a job here and the longer we stay, it only gets worse. We are basically selling most everything and moving. I normailly work in Human Resources as a Technical Recruiter so any help this board can provide would be a godsend. We are also looking into the afforable housing program.

I know it's not the question you asked, but why move back to NJ from Florida? You're obviously concerned with the cost of living here (since you're looking for something "cheap", which isn't exactly common here), so why not look at places with better job opportunities that FL, but lower cost of living than NJ?
The last thing NJ needs right now is more people looking to get into the affordable housing programs. It's been said that there's anywhere from a 50,000 to 100,000 disparity between the number of units available and the number of people who qualify for them. Our ingenious governor has said that he planned to build 100,000 units over the next 10 years, but so far there have been a few hundred built.

A price range is necessary in order to give you a better idea but cheap in Central NJ means around low to mid $300s or so. Not sure if that would work for you. It can be a little cheaper if the home or condo needs work. Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

We are moving to NJ because my wife has family and friends here, also the job market in my field seems much better in NJ. I am already talking to some companies, but nothing firm yet.

Renting to own is also an option we would consider.

Renting to own is not that common but you can find a few sellers that are willing to do it but I would not say to bet on it. Although buying is the best bet, you might want to rent for a year until your situation is all figured out just in case.

I agree, at this point renting may be the best option, or maybe rent, with an option to buy later.
