Sparta is a lovely town, but homes with a big price tag, you can go down Rt. 15 to get to Parsippany, don't know the time it would take you, I'm sure there is someone on here who can answer your questions.

Sparta to Parsippany during the morning work commute can be anywhere from 45 minutes to 1 1/2 hours, if there is a major acccident...well then it could take a long time. Rte 15 is no longer able to handle the amount of traffic and I really can't see where they could possibly add lanes.
That said Sparta is a very nice family community BUT as one poster said the homes come with high price tags & high taxes.

Sparta to Parsippany can also be 25 minutes if you dont try to do it at 730AM. I get up early to avoid the traffic. 15 South is easy at 5:40 AM still OK at 615AM but picks up quickly after that. Accidents cause everything to stop as there are not really many good ways to get to I80.
The people seem nice enough. (I live in Ogdensburg).
Crime. Statistically low.

Thanks!
We appreciate everyones replies.
Sparta seems like a good place to live, low crime, nice people, good homes.
The property taxes and price of homes seems on the high side. We are looking for a home in the 600 K range. The commute is long, but can be done.
Any other thoughts are greatly appreciated!

600k...assume your taxes will be anywhere from 12k to up to 20k depending on assessment.
Very nice area if you can afford it.....schools are pretty decent and you also have a Catholic elementary ( Rev Brown) and high school (Pope John)
Just watch out for speeding on Rte 15, the Sparta police have no mercy

Hi! I lived in Sparta for 23 years. It is a lovely place, and great for all types: families, older people, and young people just starting out. It is well situated to rt. 15, which makes it very desirable. One BIG selling point that hasn't been brought up is Lake Mohawk. The lake gives Sparta a sense of community that other towns, which are very similar in every other way, lack. $600,000 can buy you a nice house, and I don't think the taxes are OUTRAGEOUSLY higher than anywhere else in Sussex county. go on New Jersey MLS, Search for Homes in Northern New Jersey to see what you can get for the money. You will be very happy if you should decide to move there...I envy you!
