Have you thought of Hillsborough? About 20-30 commute to NB and good schools. Kids play outside and lots of townhomes in your price range.

If you would consider a 2 bedroom 2.5 bath townhouse with a basement & 1 car garage, I would suggest Princeton Walk. Large beautiful community with great ammenities (large walking areas, indoor/ outdoor pools, close to shopping, etc.)

if we can get a single family house will be happier but I'll definitely look at the above mentioned communities too. Thank you

just doing a quick search on Zillow I also see Cranford, NJ as a good alternative for the price range. Not sure about the commute (:30 hour each way?) but the schools are excellent and has an amazing town feel IMO, with a really fun downtown. There are several I found (homes not townhomes) that would fit the bill for a small family. Not a huge lot, not a huge home but you do get great value in that town if you look right. Good luck.

You can get a single family in East Brunswick or South Brunswick in your price range. I would go for a single family over a townhouse if you can. Don't forget to look at ranch houses...then you get the big basement to make a playroom and a decent-sized yard.

Thanks for all your responses, from what we see on the realtor's webpages we think our best bet would be East Brunswick. Is there any areas of town that we should stay away? can you tell me which part do you suggest for a family with a 5 year old? I checked the elementary schools they seem like they're close to each other in ranking does anyone has personal experience?

If you're going to look in Pennington also look at Hopewell, which some Pennington properties fall under when looking through real estate listings.

Another consideration should be Montgomery.

Look at Bound Brook and Dunellen in Somerset county. Both are small towns with little, walkable downtowns. Both are within 15-20 minutes of NB. South Bound Brook is closer and they have a new condo development " Canal Point" which has taken a real hit in prices. BIG Drops.! Its 5 minutes from 287 and Easton Ave. Bound Brook is better than So. BB.
