this is crazy.

so senior citizens need a way to identify a-holes on bikes? they're going to be able to read a bike license plate? really?

this will discourage bike ridership. it will hurt the sales of bikes. it will cost money to enforce and implement. it's insane.

cyclists have to follow and respect the laws of the road. but it's common sense, and does not need license plates. this is ridiculous.

This is what it said in the article:

"That, anyway, is the basic outline of a bill (A3657) introduced by Assemblywoman Cleopatra Tucker (D-Essex) who said she proposed it after several senior citizens in Belleville and Bloomfield called her to complain about kids on bikes."

So what is the rationale charging adults $10 to have a bicycle license plate? They aren't the ones committing hit and runs on senior citizens.

No rational required. It's just another stupid "official" trying to add to the taxable/fee income rather than spend a few miutes looking around and coming up with ideas about CUTTING costs.

Of course bike shops/dealers etc will have to keep reords. Imaine the whole new bunch of state staff required to "administrate a boon doggle like this .

I doubt very uch this stupid idea would ever get any real traction but think of the truely great news photo opps of protesters outside the capital building.

Torches, pitch forks and spandex. I'd luv to see it.

It's really pretty simple. The department that dispenses license plates is the Department of Motor Vehicles. No motor, no plate.

As nutty as it sounds, if it had some conditions like adults only, I like it and actually I'd love it for my town or county (bergen). I live in Edgewater and River Road have plenty of adult road bicyclists and some of them are pure a-holes...especially in summer Although they are supposed to share the road and obey the rules of the road...small number of them don't and do crap like cutting you off or cut across multiple lanes from opposite side. I'd love to get their 'plate' number and call them in for ticket.

Seriously I came close to hitting one guy because he cut across the road (underneath GW) suddenly and he was pissed that he almost got hit by car because he was being jackass...

Remember Dr. Thompson who lost it one day with bicycle/car roadrage? http://www.npr.org/templates/story/s...ryId=120457877

there are a-hole cyclists, drivers, and pedestrians.

i bike on river road a lot. most cyclists are quite respectful and make themselves nice and visible. many drivers are impatient. it'd be nice to see a bike lane there
