Just explain why ONE plow can't get out of the way every once in a while and let traffic pass?
Ever what the idiots on the road trying to merge when a lane is closed for construction? Can you imagine those same people jockeying four lanes into one in snow and ice? Now lets try to guess how many would crash in the first sixty seconds.

how would you propose they clear the highway that is 4 lanes wide of ice and slush and snow?

also - they never go 50 mile stretches while plowing. they have zones that they work in and then they pull off. but if you have a better suggestions, feel free to call the state and tell them.

because plows have to use their built-up momentum to push heavy snow and ice out of the way. they can't just pull to the side, let people pass into dangerous road conditions, and then catch up with the other plows. they plow in tandem because one plow throws into the other lane, the next plow trails slightly behind to push that into the next lane, and so on...until you get to the furthest lane where the last plow clears it to the shoulder.

That's a very good point. But 280 is only 2 lanes, so it wouldn't be totally horrible.

From the OP:

"It was raining and there was minor slush on the ground"

NO heavy snow to push. NO dangerous road conditions.

I get what you're saying and it's correct, but not in this particular situation. If the road is passable, let people pass.

i was on 280 that morning. it wasn't just rain and "minor slush" and as i pointed out...he saw the roads from behind the plows (which had just pushed the stuff out of the way)....how does he know what the roads were like ahead of the plows?

they were out making the roads safe for drivers. yet people still complain.

Yup, that's why there were so many accidents and people off the road.

280 only has 2 lanes for the first 2-3 miles off of 80. it's 3-4 lanes most of the way, before it drops back down to 2 lanes after newark.

Well, if you're just gonna state that everything posted wasn't true as presented, then it's really easy to win any argument.

GIVEN that the roads were passable, plows blocking the road is unacceptable.

GIVEN that the roads were HIGHLY dangerous and unpassable until those 4 plows went over them, then blocking the road is a necessary evil.

Can you agree with both of those statements?
