What are these teachers doing? Just like Christie said if teachers would do their job these types of things wouldnt happen.
What exactly are parents doing? Why o why cant parents actually parent and maybe just maybe their kids would learn and not do crazy things?

Do you expect teachers to know every message sent and received from these phones. Maybe they should be banned from schools?

Or maybe, just maybe, the parents should do their jobs with their kids. Should teachers have the right to check every student's phone content? This has happened so many times in the past it's not even news any longer. Keep creating TV hero's of 16 year old unwed welfare mothers and act surprised at this?

I was actually kidding about the parent part. I got a big chuckle yesterday when Christie said if we fixed the schools in NJ most of the problems of urban NJ would fix themselves. How exactly can you teach people to be parents and actually care?

Cameras on cell phones in the hands of young naive hormone crazy children scares the heck out of me!

Parents need to be more aware of perils of the technology they are giving thier children free range of. I can see why parents want to give children cell phones but ones with bells and whistles like cameras? Not necessary at all.

As parents we need to educate our children about these things but I still think your average 11 yo 6th grader is still too young to fully understand just how wrong things can go.

Hopefully the school will send out a memo asking all the children to delete the picture as it's child pornograpghy and make clear that forwarding such a message is considered distribution of child pornography.

This texting thing has got so bad that you can't stop what is sent or recieved. The phone companies did a BAD BAD thing when they introduced "Texting" to the world!! Most everything that seems like a "Good" idea at the time usually back fires and causes more issues then that of was it was supposed to have fixed. Texting sounded good your at work and can't talk on the phone send a message over, GREAT!! that was a good idea, now take that idea behind the wheel, or working on heavy machinery!! Hmm not such a good idea now is it? The more technology you put in ones hand the less they see the world around them and that goes for driving and texting or surfing the net. These issues will never go away and theres really no way to stop it.... ohhh the phone company has an add that says.. "Don't text while Driving" oh yea that works I see so many people listening to that Public Service Announcement.

As for the pix and sending naked pix, as long a a person of ANY age has a phone they can pretty much take pix of what ever they want, whos stopping them? If no one sees them doing it, then no one stops them. The phone companies have thier "smart" phones shoved so far up their...... that they can't see nothing but $$$$$ $IGN$.

True any person of any age can take and send pictures of whatever they want, which is why parents need to stop equiping their tweens with phones that have the capability to take pictures in the first place. If an adult is stupid enough to send a naked picture that can be forwarded to anyone and everyone then they are just that stupid adults. But children think they are invincible and shouldn't even be given the option to put themselves in a position not only to be humiliated but to send others materials which are illegal to posses.

Few. Even the cheapest ones have cameras built in. Too bad they didn't have a software feature to turn them off.

The only way to remove the camera is to drill it out, the software idea is a good one but some kids could probalby hack the software and turn the camera feature back on. Kids are always three steps a head of the game.

My phone doesn't have a camera. I have a NET 10 basic.

As far as the OP....what the heck are 6th graders doing with phones? Just because their friends might have one isn't an excuse for a parent to buy them one. It's time for parents to start being parents again and stop trying to be their kids friends They can do that "after" they have raised a responsible adult.

It is a very scary world with our naive young ones and all of the technology available. I don't envy any parent raising children today.
