Princeton's Dinky train has long history as town's key connection to mass transit | NJ.com

I would like to see the Dinky converted to Light Rail and extend through the Campus and around Downtown Princeton. But university is saying its afraid of accidents , for such a smart Univ they ignored the other systems with Light Rail integrated into the campus like in San Diego , Portland , Boston......they have no issues. Seems like the Univ is a bully.....and only cares about greed , rather then history... Moving the dinky would be disastrous. The history behind this line is pretty interesting.

Princeton the town has a history of blocking any kind of transportation development, whether it be 95 or whatever. Why would you want the Dinky to go around the campus? The campus seems small enough as it is, I don't think it needs a light rail. In any case, it will never happen!

Princeton Univ campus and Princeton Downtown are separated by Nassau Street. It takes me about 30 seconds to walk across Nassau street. It's a 5 minutes walk from Dinky to Nassau street. Now you want to take a light-rail?

Princeton is a very small town and Princeton Univ has a very small campus. .

You know what school could use a little light rail or monorail or something? Rutgers New Brunswick.

That would be so cool.

Theres one in planning it would run form Bound Brook Train station to South BB , then Downtown NB. Thats phase 1 , phase 2 has it going through Milltown , South River , Sayerville , Madison Park and South Amboy ending at the South Amboy train station. Phase 2 would use an Abandoned Freight line. Form what i know a private company would build it. The whole line would be 20 miles long and carry around 80,000 daily form what i'm told. The line would connect to 7 NJT Regional Railways and at least 15 bus lines.

I was thinking one that just went around Rutgers NB. Not sure if you're familiar with the campus but it is sprawling.

Ive been to the Campus near Downtown but not the other one. But this line would service the Raritan River area....which is one of the few regions of this state that is growing at a decent rate.

The one you describe wouldn't help people get around Rutgers I don't think. There are campuses from the edge of New Brunswick, all the way over into Piscataway. It's huge.

I think the light rail idea is a nice one, but personally, I veiw this as a, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it", situation.

OMG....a little "light rail" on the Rutgers New Brunswick campuses would be AWESOME!!! The downtown campus bus takes FOREVER to get from one campus to another (or so it seems)!!! Looks like George St. is gonna have to undergo construction...again.

But how will they get the light rail from College Ave to Livingston and from Busch to College Ave? The Raritan River makes things very difficult for light rail building, unless they want to build some bridges going over it.
