Anyone have any experience with this? My car was parked at a train station(public njtrasit lot) and I came back to a ticket on the windshield.

I was absolutely in the wrong, the inspection was WAY past due. I immediately got the car inspected and was trying to pay the ticket online but it is not showing up in the system.

I'm wondering can you get a ticket for "operating" a vehicle when you aren't there and the car is parked? Just curious.

My guess is it might not be for operating the vehicle? But you do have a point. My personal 2 cents is "it ain't nobody's bizness but ya own "

Oh heck back to work, lol

Look up the 39: blah blah blah number and make sure there ain't any points on it. Often it might take a few days to make it from the LEO's ticket book into any computers also.

Yes. You can also get one for an uninspected or unregistered vehicle parked in your own driveway.

if it's got a license plate and it's on the road (or parked in a public place) you can get a ticket.

are you sure about this? I know plenty of people who have cars that are parked and not being used, so they don't have tags.

Thanks All. Yeah I kind of figured but the ticket was given on Thursday and it still is not in the online system so I thought maybe there was something possibly amiss.

Yes. You need valid emission sticker on your windshield it it got a tag on it. You were unlucky that they got you while it's parked. If you are normally driving, they will give you a warning and get it inspected right away. Registration and emission inspection are so confusing in NJ so they usually let you go with warning.

I imagine it could take a week even to get the ticket into the online system.
I was out west once and the State whomever you call them had a handheld device that printed the electronic ticket out on the spot. Maybe someday you'll be able to swipe your credit card on the spot and pay your ransom.

No, you cannot. N.J.S. 39:4-50 and 39:4-96 are the two enforceable on private property.

Quote:
39:8-1. a. Every motor vehicle registered in this State which is
used over any public road, street, or highway or any public or
quasi-public property in this State, and every vehicle subject to
enhanced inspection and maintenance programs ..........

The vehicle has to be on a public roadway or public area. You driveway is neither. Some towns had ordinances to address unsuspected vehicle on their property.

The statute has changed greatly since I left so you might want to review the changes.
http://www.state.nj.us/mvc/pdf/Inspe...inspection.pdf

Depending on the system used, it will take a few days to get it into the ATS system.
