I would give you and your son the same advice that I would give someone who wanted to buy a home in that neighborhood, namely--visit during the daytime and at night.

If you and your son are from the suburbs, you may not like the "gritty" urban atmosphere. While it is not the most dangerous area that I can think of, it is also far from the safest area. You and your son will have to be the judge of how comfortable you both feel in that type of environment.

I have a variation on the same question. My realtor has been showing my beautiful properties in the neighborhood of St. Peter's College -- specifically at 50 Glenwood Ave and 333 Fairmount Ave. I've walked around the neighborhoods during the daytime, and these blocks seem better than Duncan. Are these blocks appreciably safer to live on, though?
