I've had the worst craving for real Mexican food, but so far I've only found Tex-Mex chain restaurants like Pedro's and On the Border or Cuban and Puerto Rican restaurants (delicious, but not Mexican).

Thanks! (my tummy thanks you too!)

Blue Moon in Wycoff is better than those but still not really authentic. Fiesta Hut in East Rutherford is AMAZING and super authentic. The best I've found in Passaic is LaHacienda in Paterson(not the bad part ) It's right on rt.20, they've been around for a long time and is a great family restaurant.

I went to La Hacienda when they first opened. I remember that I enjoyed whatever it was I had there. I like Blue Moon, too. They have the best black bean soup (which is probably not even Mexican, lol).

To tell the truth, I wouldn't know what would be considered "authentic" Mexican anyway.

I'm tired of looking for Authentic Mexican food. When I think I found something, usually food is horrible and expensive. I found three places (not the best thing I've ever tried, but I don't have any complain): "Noa Noa" in New Brunswick (in that area there are more, but they just accept cash and are not really fancy places), "El Aguila" in Passaic (that area has a lot of Mexican stuff) and "La Hacienda" in Patterson.

I was told that Elizabeth has a couple of good places, but I haven't found them yet :P [because Elizabeth has a lot of Colombian, Ecuadorian, Guatemalan and Costa Rican restaurants]

After searching and searching I just gave up [that's why me and my wife try food from other countries, then we don't have time to miss Mexican food - Sometimes I'm too lazy to cook it at home, because it's not the same -he he he].
So whenever I have vacations I just go to the West Coast (California: L.A., San Francisco, San Diego, Napa) or simply go to Mexico City to try the real thing

I second La Hacienda in Paterson. However, it can be cold inside if the temps are chilly. It can be a bit cramped inside. I also liked Jalepeno's Mexican Grill in Glen Rock. It has a nicer atmosphere, is not as cramped and has better temperature control than La Hacienda.

Hacienda is AMAZING. If you like fajitas, get them here.

Also, El Protrero in Hackensack is very good, as their chimichangas are awesome.

El Norte on Rt. 46 in Lodi is very good in addition to La Hacienda. Very casual. They also have an all you can eat special on Mondays for $9.95, which may be the best food deal in all of Bergen County.
