I was wondering if any one is commuting from matwan to NYC using the Bus. I'm planning to buy in this new community " The Preserve" in matawan (on Rt 79) so wanted to know if some one got some real experience going to NYC. I'll be travelling to midtown.

Thanks for your help

Shane

Most ppl in Matawan use the Train to NYC. The Train station is located off Main Street near the Parkway , its one of the more popular stations on the North Jersey Coast line. I would only use the Bus to go to Lower Manhattan , if your going to Midtown Manhattan use the train for direct Access.

The problem with the train is that there is a multi-year waiting list for a parking permit for the train lot. There are private lots that sell spots, though.

OP, the bus will be a long commute but honestly commuting to Manhattan from that area is a pain whichever method you choose. Good luck.

I take the 133 in Matawan. I get on in Old Bridge on Cottrell Road though. I used to take the 139 bus on rte 9 which is a LOT quicker. The 133 takes you down rte 34, then down Lloyd Road and gets on the parkway at exit 117. It adds about 20 minutes to your commute. If you were to take the Rte 9 bus..its a lot quicker. The only reason I take the 133 is because it literally stops right in front of my house but I do take the 139 home some nights. Let me know if you need anymore info.

I drive to NYC from Matawan. The train takes way too long. The better bus options seem to be at the Cheesequake rest area if you can get there. Check out these schedules:
