Garwood,NJ (Newark, Westfield, Cranford: house, neighborhood, live)

I spent my second weekend around NJ house hunting and came across a nice home for about $425k in Garwood. It was about 4-5 blocks away from the Garwood Station and about 2 minutes to downtown Westfield. Can anybody who currently or who has lived in Garwood tell me a little about the experience. Seems like a nice neighborhood but I always like to hear from locals b/c they usually have tips, know about local parks/restaurants/parades etc. Also if anyone commutes on the train or bus from Fanwood hows the commute to NYC? Thanks in advance.

Best bet for the train is taking it out of Westfield or Cranford- theres parking to pay, and you'd have to drive, but the train doesn't stop in Garwood anywhere near as often. I'd recommend checking out njtransit.com - the raritan valley line schedule - to see what I'm talking about.
Changing trains at Newark really isn't bad, and the ride is pretty short, I've been happy with my commute. Though a good book always helps
