Good MEXICAN restaurants in NJ
Ok people, we all know that NJ has the best Italian, pizza and bagels in the nation, but quite frankly, our Mexican blows. I was out west recently and was reminded time and time again how much better Mexican food is out there.
So, what places are GREAT (I'll even take very good)? There have to be one or two, right? Please, NO Chi-Chi's, Chevy's (although I do like their guac) or, God forbid, Taco Bell!
I've heard decent things about Rattlesnake Ranch in Denville - anyone eat there?
So, lay em on me - 201,908,973, 732,856 and even 609 (yes there are more area codes than that, i don't need to know them ) - I want to know!

Baja in Hoboken is outstanding. I miss that place more than anything else in North Jersey. They have chimichangas and margaritas to die for.
Casa Comida in Long Branch is very good.

There is a place on Rt1 south near Dayton-some little hole in the wall type of joint that is supposed to have fantastic burritos. I never ate there, but friends love it. Somebody on here probably knows the name of it.

The rattlesnake is ok, better than Chevys but not so great you need to rush there. The best place I have found around us is Chili Willies Mexican Restaurant in the middle of Boonton Main Street. Small hole in the wall type place with only about 6 tables but 100% authentic and totally yummy. We take out from there all the time. Husband and wife own it, she is the boss and he is the chef - they also just started the Chicken Haven next door. Check it out!

Beana's in Rahway is good but nobody beats Jose Tajas's chips fresh from the oven.

I went to a little Mexican restaurant in Bound Brook a few years ago. I forgot the name but it was right next to the Brook theatre. Nobody spoke English.(we were the only non Hispanics in the place) The menu was in Spanish and they served no alcohol. They said they had Mexican soda so I ordered something that sounded good and was surprised when my meal showed up with a bottle of Carona (mexican soda) Since they had no liquor license I can only assume they don't serve Mexican soda anymore.
I have no idea if this place is still in business but it was REAL MEXICAN.
BTW there is a real good Mexican restaurant in Warren Twp.(Somerser Co.) called Jose's, good food, nice decor, BYOB
