Need West New York Info
We're considering buying what looks like a really nice condo @ a good price in West New York. Hubby works at 14th Street and 8th Avenue in Manhattan. We have two beautiful girls, 13 and 3. Can anybody give me any info to help me decide wether or not to move. i.e schools, crime, commute do we need a car?

Not a good area to raise kids because the schools are not great and the area can be dangerous in MANY sections. The only good thing about it is the commute would not be bad but in my opinion it is not worth it.

Get your facts straight and look up the area. The school system in WNY is very good. Look at he DOE website for the stats. The schools are not crime ridden and the area is not either. It is an Urabn Area, and the high school is a very good one. The middle school is built new and the high school was totally renovated. The schools are also being built brand new. The neigerbor town Union City has a school that is for the gifted and talented. A NJ blue Ribbon school which some Bergen County towns do not even have. So before you listen to idiots who don't know the town do research. It is Urban and has a very big population but by no means can be compared to Jersey city/Newark/Passaic or Paterson!

The school system is not the best in NJ
It may be tops in certain categories like Best Urban Schools, but seriously what is that supposed to mean.
There are better towns with good commute to Manhattan

Both my cousins were raised in that town and are cops there....the school system is dreadful...i wouldn't want my children going to that school system and neither will my cousins..hence why they moved out of that city.
I'm aware they have fixed some of the buildings..but the overall quality of education is subpar to be polite.

Really ... list what makes it so bad.......
it would eb interesting .
Cities in Bergen County like Teaneck, Bergenfield, Fairview, Cliffside Park, Fort Lee, Ridgefield Park, Hackensack to name a few have apppalling school stats and are listed in a Suburban setting. Paramus had continmated soil and did not even tell the parents. Rich Franklin Lakes do not even have advanced classes in their middle school for children who perform at an advanced level.
The schools are not crime ridden. Memorial High School is a very good school and many of the schools in the area have rec'd Benchmark Levels. So when you list statements like you do back it up.
Yes, it is an urban town ..........

It means they have rec;d benchmark awards. Their test scores prove it and their education too.
It would be interesting to see what schools you think are tops?

OK the gangs in Franklin Lakes are just wannabe phony gangs.
And those kids are rich so they will go to much better colleges regardless of their supposed criminal records.
