Monmouth County towns are my favorite. Little slower pace then North Jersey but not as slow as South. In the middle of everything....NYC, beaches and AC. Traffic has increased over the last few years but still not as bad as North. I moved to Atl Highlands nine years ago from North and love this area. Aside from going to work I frequently feel like I'm on an extended vacation living here. Also, it has a home town feeling about it......when I go grocery shopping, out to dinner etc... I always run into people I know and everyone is really friendly. The one thing I miss....Italian & Portuguese restaurants are better in North Jersey.

Keyport
Red Bank
Atlantic Highlands
Seabright
Monmouth Beach
Long Branch
Rumson

I've been to nearly every Portuguese restaurant in the Newark area. There are very good ones in the Monmouth County area. Ria Mar in South River is on the top of my list. The Portuguese Manor and Seabras Armory in Perth Amboy are very good. I've been to Costa Verde in Sayerville and find it is usually good (I've been disapointed a couple of times) and Mirasol in Sea Bright is also very good. Give them a try. "COMER BON"

In Morris County I say Lake Hopatcong and Dover.

I love Lake Hopatcong, great restaurants on the lake, my hubby lived there for a few years before we got married and I always regretted that we didn't buy a house there, nothing like putting a boat in the cove and just hanging out for the day, or going out riding on the lake.

Dover, yes the Dover people always say is bad, it's actually a great town, lots of hustle and bustle, also many great restaurants, The Laughing Lion on Sussex St. is great, so is Charlottes Web on Clinton St. (Rt. 15), right across from Charlottes Web you have Nicks which has some of the best food in the area, then you have tons of ethnic restaurants where you get great Spanish food, for Chinese take-out you have a couple of places that people would think were a dive but are actually very good.

Hello....been to every restaurant you mentioned and I still think they are not as good as Newark but everyone has their own opinion. The Armory I've been in but walked out because it was filthy, may have changed though it was a few years ago.
