I heard from a friend who grew up in Wayne, NJ that he saw a mountain lion/cougar when he was a kid in.
Now, that area is so built up even squirrels would be lucky to be alive today.

mountain lion sighting in 2005
I had a sighting of a mountain lion on the garden state parkway just North of Cape May in June of 2005. I was driving North on the parkway going with my cousin to Cape May Court house area. It was just starting to get dark and I had seen several deer along the side so I was anticipating one crossing the road so I watching for criters. I thought I saw another deer on the left hand side so I started to slow down, but I noticed the eye color that was reflecting was red where as the last few deer I saw their eyes reflected green. So I look a little more closely at this particular critter it was tan like a deer but I notice it did not have a white tail but a long slender tail. Of coarse my passenger did not pay attention to it so he told me I was crazy and poked fun at me over the incident. For the rest of the night I was the center of the jokes over the sighting so I didn't mention it again. I am a upstate New Yorker and an avid hunter so I definately know the difference in my animals. I know what I saw but I was the only one who saw it so I had no proof. Well to my surprise my girl friend mentioned to me that she was reading about mountain lion sightings in New Jersey and didn't I tell her I had seen a large cat when I was in New Jersey. The story interested me so I read about the sightings and in my mind it just proved to me that I'm not crazy and I did actually see a large cat in NJ. Thank you to all who have reported sightings.

MOUNTAIN LIONS IN NEW JERSEY Details at the below link.
http://www.americans-working-togethe...rsey/id20.html (broken link)
Has anyone seen any Mountain Lions this year in New Jersey? I haven't seen any new articles about them.
Up here in Sussex, black bears are again causing the problems. I saw a beautiful looking, young black bear, while I was driving through High Point State Park.

MOUNTAIN LIONS IN NEW JERSEY
Has anyone read any 2007 NJ Mountain Lion stories?
Last year, there were a number of reported sightings. Has anyone read 2007 sighting stories?
I heard about a huge black cat being sighted in someone's backyard, but they never pinned it to a mountain lion. (It was on television.)

Another thread popped up on mountain lions in New Jersey
According to another thread, there has been another possible sighting of a mountain lion in New Jersey.
This summer there were no reported sightings in Sussex County, but a few lions were spotted last summer.
One lion was seen in a den at High Point Mountain.

MOUNTAIN LIONS IN NEW JERSEY
My son was hiking in the northwest corner of New Jersey in a rocky area near High Point Mountain and saw a mountain lion. He went back to the area with his friend, Bill and they found the mountain lion in a rocky den. It was NOT a Bobcat. The below article comes from the same area of New Jersey. I placed some maps on the webpage.
Mountain Lion males grow to 150 pounds. That is a pretty, big cat... It's a dangerous situation for humans and the animals.
