Mountain Lions in NJ? They are very elusive, so it could be the case, but more than likely it was a bobcat...

He thought it was a Mountain Lion and then checked the internet if Mountain Lions are found in New Jersey.
Mountain Lions have been seen in Vernon, NJ before.

The large cats have already been spotted this spring (2008) in Sussex County, NJ and Orange County, NY.

My son was hiking in the northwest corner of New Jersey in a rocky area near High Point Mountain and saw a mountain lion. He went back to the area with his friend, Bill and they found the mountain lion in a rocky den. It was NOT a Bobcat. The below article comes from the same area of New Jersey. I placed some maps on the webpage.
Mountain Lion males grow to 150 pounds. That is a pretty, big cat... It's a dangerous situation for humans and the animals.

The History Channel had a story about huge Black Cats in PA.

Mountain lions are awesome creatures, but IDK what I'd do if I ever found myself face-to-face with one. I'd probably die waaay before it got a chance to attack, LOL.

I'd have to have a second pair of pants. You are at his or her mercy. Some of them grow to be 250 pounds.
Even the little 90 pounders are tremendously strong.

Too many in Sussex County. A couple of months ago my wife hit one a block from our house and killed it. Also bashed in the hood of her car.
No shortage of deer road kill in northern NJ.
Still not moving the family to Newark though. Ain't gonna happen.
The idea of moutain lions being here is sort of fascinating, I have to admit. They are however, very dangerous predators. I don't think we want them to over-populate their habitat.

I'm glad to say that I've been close to hitting deer plenty of times but no cigar. I get them on my yard all the time but my wife won't let me shoot them, she says "I'm not eating bambi"

Alex you should meet up w/my BF, he wants to shoot everything and eat it, even squirrels. BTW, I'm sure you know, but I'll mention it anyway, it's not legal to shoot deer out of season even on your own property.
