I don't believe, nor disbelieve the mountain lion stories; it's possible. I am not making fun, but imaging the surprise and disbelief when a tiger was spotted in Jackson.

There have been sporadic reports for years of a mountain lion in the Pine Barrens. No hard evidence has been documented (that I know). I know, and know of, people who spend a lot of time in the woods. If they tell me that there's a big cat in the woods, I'll know it is true.

Bear sightings were reported in S Jersey for years before their presence was acknowledged.

I live in the Garrett Mountain area. There was a siting a few weeks ago near the condo complex right off route 46. My friend will not leave her small dog out now. This is the second time one of my friends has seen a mountain lion in the area. That one was in the upper Montclair area close by.

Since I wrote this post I have spoken to the nature experts in the area. They have told me there are bobcat sitings in the area but it would be hard to believe there are any cougars. They think people may have seen a bobcat. Well, at some point, if there are cougars they will show up somewhere else and I didn't even know there were bobcats either.
